Johannes - you certainly must be a statistician!!! Quick PS: I'd also be interested in columns for estimated no. of people in the audience, and possibly a house concert indicator (was it a house concert yes/no) - -Johannes ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 18:02:29 +0100 (CET) From: Johannes Schult Subject: Re: [RS] Live show dates list? Hello Gina, hello list, while gathering past setlists I frequently came across concert reviews without specific dates/venues. So I had to dig for old tour schedules. I'd love to see a comprehensive list of Richard Shindell dates and I'd happily contribute. I considered adding empty setlists for all known RS gigs on setlist.fm, but it makes it more difficult to access the actual song info. I'm no Google docs expert; I'd certainly prefer some sort of spreadsheet (basically a machine readable format to allow subsequent info charts etc.) with columns for the date, venue, city, state, country, line-up (musicians on stage as well as opener/headliner), review/setlist link(s). Tour schedules from before 2005 were frequently posted on the list and also on other lists (the latter going back beyond the list archive in 2000). A small issue is the confirmation of those itineries - sometimes gigs get cancelled or moved in the last minute. Maybe add a "confirmed" indicator in the concert list for those concerts that definitely took place. Cheers from Germany, Johannes > gina hat am 25. Nora (over May) have never heard the Fast Folk version of May, will have to check that out, but doubt it would change my vote. 2. Reunion Hill (over Next Best Western) aaargh! Love NBW, but not as much as Reunion Hill. 3. Last Fare of the Day (over Mary Magdalene) very close, but love Last Fare too much to eliminate it yet. 4. State of the Union (over Wisteria) a bit of a cheat here, but I know Wisteria will be there in the next round to measure against another song. And I really do love State of the Union, it just gets me every time. 5. Fishing (over I Saw My Youth Today) Clear winner, even over another song I have a soft spot for. 6. Transit (over Waiting for the Storm) another clear winner, but the next RS show I attend I would vastly prefer that he play Waiting for the Storm (which he never has in the dozen or so shows Ive been to). I love Transit, but he plays that every time, I dont really need to hear it again. 7. Courier (over Che Guevara T-Shirt) aaargh again! But Courier will make the championship round in my voting. 8. Sparrows Point (over You Stay Here) Several years ago I probably would have voted the other way, but I have appreciated Sparrows Point more and more over the years. On to the Elite Eight! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 09:30:32 -0500 From: "Michael & Linda Marmer" Subject: Re: [RS] Transit Surprise, Give it a try, you will never know. I would get a 32 HD memory card, as I used 19 GB on what I got. I think I got over half of the concert. Good luck. I will be trying this again with Garnet Rogers in April. Same table. Mike Wow! I'm surprised. Thought you may have had a specialty cam. I have a very similar sony which I just may bring to the next show to try. carrie mike sez The camera is a Canon SX230 as I am surprised about the quality of the video and audio. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 11:41:27 +0000 From: Dave McKay Subject: Re: [RS] Much Madness: Sweet Sixteen. Okay, I've switched from the impenetrable time-altering digests, and can now follow this discussion properly! 1. Nora (over May) I have no great affiliation to either of these, but on a straight side-by-side listen to the album tracks, I'm going for Nora. 2. Next Best Western (over Reunion Hill) Purely from the associated memories of driving through New England with some great friends in 1999 to and from to our first Falcon Ridge, it has to be NWB. 3. Mary (over Last Fare) This was a closer call than I was expecting. Last Fare is the more mature song, but I'm sticking with Mary. Just. 4. Wisteria (over State Of The Union) Maybe it's the Old World in me, but I just don't identify with State. Not so Wisteria. 5. I Saw My Youth Today (over Fishing) This one was ever closer than #3! I wasn't expecting to choose anything other than Fishing, but, back to back, ISMYT seems fresher. 6. Transit (over Waiting For The Storm) I love the imagery of Transit, and the contrary nature of the song construction. It's almost a concept album in a single track. Also, US political history since the song was written can be summarized by the list of adjectives used to describe the "... Republicans"! 7. Che (over Courier) I find Courier a bit of an uninteresting drone, so Che wins out on that count. 8. You Stay Here (over Sparrow's Point) This is another Nora vs May for me. Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 07:22:30 -0500 From: "cvz" Subject: Re: [RS] Transit Thanks Mike, I've been viewing your videos. It must be a very nice camera. Audio is great as well as quite decent video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twxj-3GH6x0 I am editing the videos with multiple songs, as this is just Transit. Interesting pattern: all four of Richard's long character pieces (Last Fare, Che, SOTU, and Sparrows Point) lost. Also, whenever a one word song went up against one with more than one word, the single word song won.
