I thought that I was going to be the only one who voted for Waiting For The Storm. For some reason, ever since first hearing it in an incomplete form, Transit has always just rubbed me the wrong way. I've been so busy the last couple of weeks that I completely missed round two, and want to make sure I get my votes in for the sweet sixteen. 1. May 2. Next Best Western 3. Last Fare of the Day 4. Wisteria 5. Fishing 6. Transit 7. Che Guevara T-Shirt 8. You Stay Here No time for pithy comments. Hope I'll have more time for the quarter finals. BTW, I did have a great time at the City Winery show last week: Similar to postings about other shows this tour -- 5 guitars, opened with Kenworth, strange mic effects on Stray Cow, really liked Satellites, Careless, Northbound 35. Still love Transit and Last Fare. Brought out Lisa Gutkin, a fiddler friend from RS' Fast Folk days who opened the show, to play and sing on AYHN. Then brought out John Putnam! to get down with Marc on Love in Vain. Closed with a rousing Arrowhead. The live one is sort of the connecting point or neutral color between the two. I guess I also think in less specific terms of early being when Charlie Hunter was more or less at the helm, and afterwards. Which is real close to being the same definition. - -the non-Colorado JC, who hopes to see the Colorado JC again at some point Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2013 09:32:16 -0000From: =?utf-8?q?john_cl=C3=A9irigh?= Subject: Re: [RS] What's "Early RS?"I label those periods differently, but that is my dividing line betwixtthe two.- --JC - ------------------------------------------------------------------------From: "Rongrittz" During the tournament, I've heard alot of references to Richard's "early stuff." And it got me wonderingwhere we draw the line between early and late Richard songs. Is thedividing line after "Somewhere Near Paterson," meaning the first fourreleases are the "early" ones and "Vuelta" (now almost nine years old),"South of Delia" and "Not Far Now" are considered the "late" ones?------------------------------End of shindell-list-digest V12 #400************************************ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2013 09:52:52 -0800 (PST) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: Re: [RS] Much Madness: Sweet Sixteen. that's from Fleur di Lis. just saying. - --- On Tue, 2/26/13, Howie wrote: 3. Seeing Marc the first time on the Club Passim concert, I was not impress, but as I saw him on Saturday live, wow, he is good, as so is the drummer, as the whole band is not band at all, so I change my tune on them. O:)! We saw Olabelle open up for Shindell once, as I think the daughter of Levon Helm is in the group. As for my videos of the concert, I probably will edit the 2 long youtubes into individual songs. The ability to check archives & the "cleaner" content keeps me here even if I don't post much. FB does not archive posts & will only hold a limited number at any given time. I suspect that our current flurry of activity would already have surpassed the limit. So one would not be able to go back & read something like Howie's interpretation of May. Also FB has ads embedded (coyly concealed as "suggested" posts/sites). Not to mention that FB lends itself to much off-topic posting. Also the long posts would not be posible. The moderated format is my preference. I have. FB page but keep my friend list very limited and do not accept most friend requests. I don't "like" many pages. I am not discounting the way in which FB can connect people but this forum suits me better. I understand why folks might be inclined to use FB for RS content but I am not likely to migrate there. RG, Thanks for moderating the list for all these years. My thoughts on set lists: a live RS show is never repeated exactly the same way even if there tends to be trends in song selection & storytelling. It is not a spoiler to me to read about a previous show. On the contrary, it wets my whistle and fills me with hope & anticipation. I understand that not everyone feels this way. However, I think it would be certain death to the list if set lists were banned. It seems odd after all these years to have this become an issue (Maybe I missed some former thread on this topic). I have been here over 10 yrs I think, and one of the best parts for me are the thoughts & comments shared about live shows.
