It's really not that serious! I'm amazed this is even an issue and am frustrated and saddened by the fact that this "debate" is probably discouraging people from writing show reports who otherwise would. This is really a conversation that only needs to happen between a reader and his/her own delete key. Can't see the reason to go peeing in other people's cornflakes. Remember many (most?) of us are seeing Richard just once or not at all. There are a ton of folks on this list for whom show reports are all we've got! So please, friends, if you would: have a giving heart and loop us in. :) Just put "show report" or "concert review" or similar in the subject line, and spoiler-eaters and spoiler-phobes can continue to coexist quite peacefully as they have on this list for almost two decades so far. - --V P.S. A couple weeks back, I wrote a post with examples of different types of show reports, from the simple and straight-forward, to the more detailed. If you're thinking of writing a show report and don't know where to start, that might give you some ideas. http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list/v12.n373 On Mon, Feb 25, 2013 at 8:35 AM, Georgette deFriesse wrote: > you all don't tell Richard's jokes as well as he does. Really nice people, hope to keep in touch with them and see them again, sometime. Jammin Java was pretty packed, over 200, as I have been here before, with maybe 20 for a concert for someone else we follow. We have a show here in April for Ron Sexsmith, then a week later, Garnet Rogers, then the Warner Theatre in DC, GREAT BIG SEA, a group we fell in love with in 2008. Oh, and a Baltimore Symphony concert featuring Beethoven 7th, at Strathmore in MD. Pretty busy time, as we also go downtown to DC to get baseball tickets for 10 Sundays, at Nationals Park. Anyway, the show was really good, I am glad that Sue kept a playlist, as I do not do that. Very interesting to see Richard with a bass, a guitar player and the unusual style of drumming. I do not know much about the three with him. I do have some video of the show, which I will post on Youtube as the batteries are charging. My plan was to let the camera run mainly for the audio, but that did not work out as planned. Batteries are almost 2 years old and I use the camera a lot. I need to get new batteries that will hold up to the power time they are intended for. I got a lot of audio too. I was surprised that he started off with Transit, as that was fine. Overall good concert, as Sue's description is great. Okay, this Saturday, David Buskin and Robin Batteau as we first saw them January 4, 1984 at the Kennedy Center in DC as part of Tom Rush's Club 47 with Nanci Griffith, the late Bill Morrissey and one other, who did not make that much of a impression. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDiaDF2c6pw Some of you know of Lucy's version of Guinevere, but Robin wrote it and this is him singing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHmD-ST7Iag For those who do not know of Great Big Sea, this is from their box set, which reflects upon 20 years as a group with old video's inter twined in the video. Mark was in great form and Richard turned him loose and let him rock the house with some great solos. Richard was sad, it was the last night for the 4 of them--Lincoln and Joe would not be accompanying them on the trip 'further South". He really enjoyed working with them, I think. Joe's percussion set up was truly unique...it looked like he went through a thrift shop and scarfed up whatever odds and ends were there that would make noise Had seats right in front of Richard, not 5 feet from the stage. I didn't write the set list down this time either, but I do remember that he opened with Transit. When he does that, I always expect him to say good night and walk off stage :) I think pretty much the rest of the show was as Vanessa said. Vanessa, I think I passed you when I headed back to the ladies room-we met years ago at a World Cafe show :) You were along the wall, just to the side of the stage, right? I'm the goofball with the dog named Nora....I thanked Richard after the show for playing it-I had asked him after the New Hope show if he would do it at the Tin Angel. He said the band didn't know it....but apparently that didn't matter. It was beautifully done, as always. He remembered meeting Nora at Concerts Under the Stars almost 7 years ago when she was a puppy. I have a cherished photo of him with her in his arms, he's giving her a big ol' hug. Richard mentioned how much he loves the Tin Angel...he said its like a pressure cooker, kind of do-or-die there. It's one of my favorite places to see music. Ellis Paul and Francis Dunnery come there all the time, apparently they love it too! Vance Gilbert's "Angels, Castles, and Covers" CD is great start to finish, but the standout for me us "Save the Last Dance." The arrangement is slowed down and almost mournful, which really fits the lyrics. Particularly when you know that Doc Pomus was ill, on crutches, and physically unable to dance with his wife in his later years. "We Belong" is the one Pat Benatar song I love on it's own merit, not because it's great 80's nostalgia for me.
