Yikes. 1. May *Nora*** Nora has always haunted me, and therefore wins this round, even though I've voted for May in earlier rounds. 2. *Reunion Hill*** Next Best Western The fates are not kind, pairing these two. I love Next Best Western, but when I point to a model of what I aspire to in songwriting, it's Reunion Hill. 3. *Mary Magdalene*** Last Fare of the Day This (along with #2) is the hardest matchup of this round for me. I've gone back and forth, but even though I think Last Fare is a perfect picture/story, no one else could have written Mary Magdelene, and the playfulness (embedded in seriousness) of that one wins it for me. Reluctantly, though. 4. Wisteria *State of the Union*** Interesting. I like SOTU (heck, I like Wisteria, too, but it's never had the sentimental attachment for me it seems to have for others), but either of these would lose out in my book in almost any other matching in this set. I know SOTU os not going to win, though, because there are too many Wisterites on this list. 5. *Fishing*** I Saw My Youth Today Fishing is top 10 for me, and Youth doesn't even make top half. (I haven't voted for it yet in the tournament.) 6. *Transit*** Waiting for the Storm This one was easy -- Transit is one of my favorites, and I haven't voted for WFTS yet in the rankings. 7. Courier *Che Guevara T-Shirt*** Courier is an excellent song, but Che is a perfect (and unlikely to be told by most folks) story with brilliant lyrics. 8. You Stay Here *Sparrows Point*** * * I like these two about equally, but I think the complexity of SP wins this round for me. Will be curious to see what happens next round.
