Here are my picks: 1. You Stay Here (over Mariana's Table) This was a tough one. I went with my sentimental choice, since I started listening to Richard right before Somewhere near Patterson came out. You Stay Here is a classic. 2. Tune for Nowhere (over Waiting for the Storm) Tune for Nowhere is very pretty. Waiting for the Storm, though lots of fun, lacks a hook that grabs me. I like the picking, though, especially live. 3. Wisteria (over Abuelita) Not even close. Wisteria is beautiful. Abuelita (and Mary Magdelene - see 13) are my go get a beer songs. For whatever reason, they both bore me. 4. Get up Clara (over Last Fare of the Day) This one was REALLY tough. Both of these songs belong in the final rounds, so it's a shame they are paired up so early on. 5. Ascent (over TV Light) 6. Balloon Man (over Easy Street) 7. Confession (over Fenario) Another tough one. I really like them both. I figured that between Darkness Darkness on the chorus, and the lifted lyrics of the last verse, Fenario is the less "original" of the two. 8. By Now (over Howling at the Trouble) 9. I Saw my Youth Today (over You Again) 10. Mavis (Over Parasol Ants) To me, Mavis is more inventive, musically, than Parasol Ants. Richard doesn't have any other songs like it, so I picked it. 11. One Man's Arkansas (over State of the Union) 12. On a Sea of Fleur-De-Lis (over Hazel's House) Not a knock on Hazel's House, but On a Sea of Fleur-De-Lis is one of my favorites. 13. So Says The Whipporwill (over Mary Magdalene) Slam Dunk. (See 3 above) Thanks for doing this! ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #315 ************************************
