[Laurence Krulik ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2013 21:57:24 -0500 From: Laurence Krulik Subject: [RS] Much Madness, Round One. My choices in bold. 1. Mariana's Table *You Stay Here* This was really hard for me. I love the two different versions of Mariana's Table... I think I like the alt version better. I also think that music paints the story perfectly. You Stay Here was one of the first Shindell songs I learned on guitar and I have a personal connection to it. Also, the haunting theme of You Stay Here plays on my need for post-apocalyptic stories. 2. A Tune For Nowhere *Waiting For The Storm* * * I don't love either but waiting for the storm has a fun bluegrassy feel I always liked. 3. *Abuelita* Wisteria I'm sure this will stir up some controversy here, but I never fell in love with Wisteria like most Shindell fans. 4. *Last Fare Of The Day* Get Up Clara I love Clara. And I know Richard LOVES Clara. He would probably pick Clara. But how anyone other than its author can pick Clara is beyond me. Last Fare is one of the most perfect songs created. Final 4 material. 5. *Ascent* TV Light No major comment here. TV Light is a good song. I'm glad it was penned. Not exactly memorable, though. 6. *Balloon Man* Easy Street Balloon Man all the way. 7. Confession *Fenario* * * Fenario's guitar work is amazing. I love the "hey doc / little blue pill" part in Confession. I love that whole song, but fenario is simply more sophisticated. 8. Howling At The Trouble *By Now* See post-apocalyptic cravings above. 9. *I Saw My Youth Today* You Again No real comment here. 10. Parasol Ants *There Goes Mavis* Some people said they don't care for Ants. What?!?! What an amazing song from the perspective from someone on the ground. Try to write a song which captures an event a few seconds in duration... That all being said, Mavis is Mavis and she will likely fly its way to the final 4. 11.*One Man's Arkansas* State of the Union I like State, but OMA was just the trick for me. 12. On A Sea Of Fleur-De-Lis *Hazel's House* Someone said it, Hazel's House is a gem and one of the first Shindell songs I liked. 13. Mary Magdalene *So Says The Whipporwill* * * Remember, Whipporwill's don't eat seeds. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #285 ************************************
