And then the marital strife began. I asserted that it was a "profound song". Hubby scoffed and said if I wanted "profound", I needed to listen to Randy Newman's "He Gives Us All His Love". And then he promptly made me play it. DANG those handy MP3 songs!! Newman and Shindell are both great songwriters/poets. This means that their songs are wide open for people to make their own connections to, and leads to very subjective takes on what the song is or is not. Of course, my husband and I have been arguing for 24 years about just what Springsteen was talking about when he wrote, "Pink Cadillac". My husband, a lover of old Caddies, insists it's about a car. I think it IS about what Eve really did tempt Adam with. Like parfait, great songs have many layers... *Ciao!* .....Carol ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #269 ************************************
