Admittedly, I'm a raised Jew turned atheist, but if you're going to walk out of a Shindell show because of the possibility that he's *alluding* to the fact that Jesus and Mary were intimate... you really don't deserve to have been there in the first place. Remember, the notion is that Jesus was God made man. So, for me personally, it makes perfect sense that they would be physically intimate. You know, when my Dad sat me down for the old birds and bees talk, it was presented to me as a beautiful thing between a man and a woman. Sorry Vanessa, I did mean to post that I enjoyed reading those interviews! As for laughing at songs, I was surprised at a concert once when people laughed at Transit. I didn't think that was a particularly funny song! And when people laugh at AYHN, I know they're newbies. But that's okay, makes you listen to the song again with 'fresh' ears. I do remember when I heard Mary Magdelen for the first time, it was at a festival and Lucy sang it, I gasped when I heard the his career or mine line but then I thought it was pretty clever after a beat. And for anyone who would like to read the archives, here's the link: http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list/shindell-list-digest/ I don't think the link on Richard's website works anymore. Never thought of the song being of erotic between the two, but her love for the man. I am sorry that some do get upset about the song, but I can understand their feelings about the situation and how the song brings to life their relation. I first found Darryl Purpose years back through RG and John Clary; he recorded his first CD in years this past year and is doing a show Thursday evening from Texas that's available for five bucks: https://www.bluerocktexas.com/live/ For my money, he's one of the finest storytellers out there, and it's good to see him returning to doing live shows again. For no particular reason except it being a boring rainy day, I hunkered down with my iPad Saturday and read the entire Shindell-list archives from the beginning through the end of 2001. Those were the days, with often 30+ posts per day. And even when Richard wasn't recording or touring, we found stuff to talk about. I could understand if old-style email discussion groups were replaced by an equally enthusiastic Facebook, presence, but that's not really what's happened. I miss you guys.
