So, I've never heard it without context. Also, Martin, I don't know what it was like in England, but in the U.S. media coverage of the event was relentless. So, I immediately connect to the lyric, "...I could not bear to hear another word." However, I would also agree with Johannes that good art is open to be interpreted in more than one way. I had a very evangelical upbringing, but heard "Before You Go" multiple times before I realized it was written as God speaking in the first person to Christ before he sent him to Earth. The song works as almost any parent speaking to their child. Songs like "Blue Divide" and "You Again" are most likely traditional love songs, however I suddenly and unexpectedly lost one of my dearest friends this year and "You Again" fits my thoughts and feelings as I come to grips with the death of this platonic friend. A song from this other New Jersey guy, Springsteen, "Wrecking Ball" was written about the demolition of the Meadowlands stadium. However, the lyrics transcend that singular event for me and are really about bracing for the tougher moments of life and not allowed it to defeat you. A good singer/songwriter will never let you down.... :-) ~ Carol ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #182 ************************************
