I can hardly wait! In terms of listening, I revisited my love of Peter Gabriel this winter and listened to a lot of his stuff, older and newer. I remembered how much I liked the album, "UP" which came out in 2002. I also struggled, and failed, to like his work with the New Blood Orchestra (his songs set in orchestral arrangements). Other than that, I've been listening to lots of jazz: Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, stuff like that. Since then, very few live shows, though we did make the trek on three consecutive nites in March to see: Eilen Jewell, John Prine, and Paul Kelly (rare Pittsburgh appearance - he's an Aussie)...going to Cheryl Wheeler this Thursday... What I've been listening to: James Maddock John Hiatt "Dirty Jeans & Mudslide Hymns" We are Augustines Turn the Tide: Songs for Last Call at the Oasis ($1 download or whatever you wish to pay) Chuck Prophet "Temple Beautiful" Lianne Smith "The Ballad of Sad Endings" from "Two Sides of a River" Joseph Arthur "Redemption City" (online download -- pay what you want) Planning to catch Alejandro Escovedo on Mountain Stage as they travel to Morgantown, WV in early June. Anyone seen "Marley", the new documentary? Excellent, though as tad long at 144 minutes... RG, sitting patiently waiting for a CD of new material from that guy Richard Shindell. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 May 2012 04:53:40 -0700 (PDT) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: Re: [RS] Ol' Moose CD I have to say, I've been listening non-stop to Dar's new cd. It is a very short cd but a really great one. It's different from her usual stuff but different=good. And Vanessa, I'm so jealous! I'm going to have to find a way to get some tix to see Leonard Cohen. I wonder if it's sold out already! Where is that 2nd cd of re-recorded stuff that RS was supposed to release? I'm ready for it. Took the winter off as far as a lot of listening goes. I even skipped an opportunity to hear Antje last month. I think I must have O.D.'d on Ray LaMontagne's "God Willin and the Creek Don't Rise" last fall. I just couldn't take it out of short rotation. Currently listening to Jeff Black's "Plow through the Mystic" and just ordered and received Liz Longley's latest "hot loose wire" after missing an opportunity to hear her in Florida. She is so young...but I like her! Jim - I didn't know you were a poet! Carrie in KC > Boy, it's been quiet here lately, huh? I've always been a fan, but perhaps now I am a RABID fan. Also saw him live for the first time this Spring. Things have been going on with me that REQUIRE angry music and Springsteen is delivering. He wrote the title song, "Wrecking Ball" for the demolition of the Giants stadium, but like any master songwriter it is something that fits so much more and is open to the listener's interpretation. Honestly, I find another track, "Jack of All Trades" Shindell-worthy. It's a brilliant song about what the 99% now faces.... Not that I have a strong opinion about it or anything.
