I have not listened to this album in years - it is buried within my vinyl somewhere. But there is a wonderful version of " I am the Light of this World " on Kelly Joe Phelps live CD with an absolutely stunning " Killing Floor Blues " As to the Tom Waits - where to start - Swordfishtrombone would be my recommendation. I have seen Mr.Waits 3 times - when he actually toured to Canada. While I love the early stuff, this is the jumping off point for " new " as opposed to different music. Or perhaps Orphans, Brawlers and Bastards - it encompasses much of the sound and is easier to come to for someone not really versed in Waits music. In a related tie in, one of my favorite takes on "Time" was done by a long-defunct local flexibly-configured band called Retromoose, comprised mostly of professors from Bucknell and Penn State. What's that got to do with anything relating to this list, you ask? Retromoose included Doug Anderson, former member of Razzy Dszzy Spasm Band along with Richard, Gorka and Russ Rentler. Great guitar player, good guy. I miss having Doug in our area. Retromoose also, incidentally, did probably the best take on Billy Ed Wheeler's "Coal Tattoo" I've ever heard, and that includes quite a few at this point.
