Richard is definitely doing the harmonies (like he is on many of those tracks). This tour Richard is accompanied by Marc Shulman on electric guitar while Richard sticks to the acoustic. The first 2 shows on saturday were house concerts but due to their late arrival the first one featured Richard solo (not enough time to set Marc's gear up) I didn't keep setlists but he covered his complete oeuvre with a few unusual choices mixed in. songs played during the 3 shows were: Fenario Are you happy now the Courier Kenworth of my Deams Nora Summer wind Cotton Dress Fishing Arrowhead Ascent Mary Magdalene (though I am not sure about this one) Before you go Beyond the Iron Gate Reunion hill you stay here (mix of his own version and Steve Knighleys, mentioned here recently) Confession Transit Wisteria Waist Deep Hazel's House Mavis Last Fare of the Day Senor Get up Clara Balloon Man One man's Arkansas (my request after he turned down the Mountain) Gethsemane Goodbye Change is gonna come Sitting on top of the world Juggler out in Traffic She belongs to me Hobo song (pete rowan and some new unrecorded ones too: Satellites Abby's gone to the country Stray cow Blues and a first performance of a ballad probably called More Beautiful than blue its chorus goes something like Just right now .... Just right now .... Just right now .... .... more beautiful than blue Seemed like a love song on first hearing. Marc played some terrific licks to add something extra to the songs, I really enjoyed it. Richard was in terrific form and these shows were amongst the best I have seen him play. Problably due to the late arrival on saturday he had no setlist for the first show and was taking a lot of requests. Because some people stayed on for the evening show as well (yours truly amongst them) he tried to play not too many of the same songs (i think only 4 of them were played in the afternoon and evening) Most alarming thing I heard him say was that he was thinking of not making any more albums but just making songs digitally available online. hope he'll reconsider this. When I left my hotel to travel to Twickenham where sunday's show woul;d take place I bumped into .... Richard. Apparently he had stayed the night in the same hotel as I did. missed him at breakfast though, but Peter - onedart- Manley was there. Had the pleasure to meet fellow list member Johannes from Germany during the afternoon show in Turners hill (he was at Twickenham too) even though that meant he beat me in having travelled the furthest for the house concerts. :-) Later this month i will see Richard (and Marc) a couple of more times as they visit the Netherlands. I really like Stray Cow Blues and Abby Goes to the Country -- only heard Satellites once and the new one sounds like it might be a keeper. Hey, what's the difference between digital releases and complete records, anyway? If you look at our discussion of late, we all winnow records down to the 3 or 4 (if you're lucky) songs that you want to listen to on a semi-regular basis. I'll admit that I go overboard with an artist for a couple of weeks, then back off and return some time later to filter out the songs that don't have staying power. Richard's oeuvre, as you eloquently put it, is unusual for me in that I still enjoy most of the songs. If he wants to release any of the unreleased songs on his website it would be better than waiting a couple of years for the complete cd. NOTE: I can hear the traditionalists saying, "No, no, there goes the end of the cd." -- Well, the cd has been dead for a number of years now and the artwork was never as satisfying as the LP and the liner notes were in a 2.5 font, so what's to miss? I say, bring it on, Ricardo! I listened with my little ear buds AGAIN last night and kept thinking, "That IS Richard or I'm going crazy!!!!" I can't lose my identity as an obsessed fan!!! The particular give away for me is (and this shows I've probably listened to the song TOO many times...:-) is the way he pronounces "ambulance". You almost never can hear it, but my very Southern ears can hear the very slight New York accent on that word. On a semi-related tangent...If anyone has heard Catie Curtis's "My Dad's Yard" -- John Gorka's cameo vocals are the icing on the cake. It's already a great song, but he adds an extra layer. Gorka shows up on Antje's CD, too. ..Carol On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 9:28 AM, Laurence Krulik wrote: > Matthew - I didn't read through this article thoroughly, but Carol is > right. > Richard is definitely doing the harmonies (like he is on many of those > tracks). > > On Mon, Sep 6, 2010 at 20:47, Matthew Bullis >wrote: > > > > > > http://www.victorymusic.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=402:antje-duvekot-vertigo&catid=100&Itemid=10 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2010 19:38:57 -0700 From: Subject: Re: [RS] beaches, birds & beasts >> The particular give away for me is (and this shows I've probably listened to the song TOO many times...:-) is the way he pronounces "ambulance". << The particular give away for ME was simply looking at the liner notes, in which Richard and Mark are BOTH listed as doing harmony vocals on "Vertigo." Occam's Razor, kiddies: the simplest explanation is usually the correct one. RG ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V11 #58 ***********************************
