This is true. I watched/heard it and thought they would be playing more of it. Those dirty rats!! Ending an Arrowhead opener a bit prematurely due to really bad feedback and popping sounds, a clearly annoyed Richard took the whole band backstage while they attended the equipment. Although the major issues were fixed, the the popping still haunted Richard thoughout the set. He even joked about moving the microphone stand a little bit. "Now nobody move." This all a bit odd after Antje's set went flawlessly even with the whole band. Overall, good show - I would've like to hear a bit more tunes off the beatin' path, but I was on the couches at Joe's Pub and felt like Richard was playing in my living room... can't beat that ever. Also really nice to hear Antje for the first time. Satellites was good to hear for the first time. He again asked the crowd if there were any economist in the crowd. "Hedge fund traders? This ones for you...". Clearly a politically charged song although I didn't capture the lyrics specifically. The show felt way too short; with the sound delays, he didn't even have time to come back for an encore. He came out after he officially closed the set (as many were expecting one more) and said they simply don't have enough time for another one and he thanked everyone again for coming out. I thought Joe's should have compensated him this time since it was their issue. Backstage, I asked him about 2 things: more archive releases and the Not Far Now T-shirts. He said he would release more stuff, but every time he listens to something, he's absurdly critical of the recording. He's still going to try to release more live stuff. T-shirt are almost done. Designer took forever, apparently. Oh yeah, a highlight of the night for me was finally hearing how to pronounce Antje's name correctly. It's "an-cha". As a side note, the majority of the audience praise and clapping came when he started and concluded Are You Happy Now. This still surprises me. Are folks really going to see him knowing this one song? If you're a fan, it's likely you've heard him play this before and rather hear something different. He's got such a diverse catalog now and for fans to still want him to play Happy is a waste... I personally think he should drop it from the setlist on principle. *Setlist * *Antje Duvecot* Dandelion Sex Band-aid Sweet Spot They All Laughed (George Gershwin ) Dublin Boys (w/ Richard and Full Band Vertigo (w/ Richard and Full Band) *Richard Shindell (w/ Full Band) *Happy Trails (improve instrumental while sound was being addressed) Arrowhead Reunion Hill Satellites Balloon Man Mavis A Juggler Out in Traffic Sitting on Top of the World Che Guevara T-Shirt Are You Happy Now? Thank you!! Sorry there were sound issues. I would be totally bummed if that happened at a show down here as he rarely gets to Florida now. As for "AYHN", it will never go away. It's his "Stairway to Heaven". It's a "gateway" song to Shindell for many fans -- including myself. I do not need to hear it at a show and have actually sometimes felt that RS was "phoning it in" -- although when I interviewed him for our paper's entertainment section years ago -- he insisted that he loves doing it. ...CL On Sun, Nov 8, 2009 at 9:14 AM, Laurence Krulik wrote: > Richard got off to a rocky start after Antje's set due to technical sound > issues. She's now my all-time third favorite songwriter (after Richard and Dave Carter), and "Near Demise of the Highwire Dancer" has worked its way into my list of all-time Top Ten CDs. For anyone who hasn't seen her, but wants a taste, there's a lot of stuff on YouTube, including a fun performance of Gershwin's "They All Laughed." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGizYEgsD5I >> As a side note, the majority of the audience praise and clapping came when he started and concluded Are You Happy Now. Every artist has that one song that's totally accessible to all audiences (Antje has "Dandelion"), so it becomes a live-show set-list staple, perhaps to help draw in newbies.
