A few random thoughts... * A bit odd that he kicked off the gig with a fairly obscure cover (the Olabelle song). Good song though... * Strange that my least favourite song on the new album ended up being my favourite song he played all night (Get Up Clara) * Even odder that he didn't change the guitar out of dadgad tuning for the entire first set.....the second set he was still in it then went down to open D for Arrowhead before returning to Dadgad again! I think it was after 11pm when he finally settled in standard tuning for a few songs (You Stay Here, Transit etc)...then by the end I think he was back in Dadgad again. I'm pretty sure in 2007 the split was much more even (though he also had a bouzouki on that tour). It's clear many of the songs are interchangable tunings-wise....if someone requests a song he doesn't necessarily retune to play it. * Even though Ronnie's stalker staus is now beyond reasonable doubt I'd like to take the opportunity to reassure folks that he's actually perfectly normal and a really nice guy! The song appeared fully formed and finished as opposed to a work in progress. Sounded great to these ears anyway...though Heaven knows how a song about an Argentinian pooch came to fruition in Florence, Italy. Richard also mentioned that his daughter by now had just about got over the loss and that as soon as she hears it the song will be likely to open up old wounds (which will probably get him back into 'hot water' again) Gerry ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jun 2009 06:48:07 -0400 From: Jim Thomann Subject: Re: [RS] re the new dog song I remember being at one of his shows (a few years ago) and he mentioned that he had just got a new puppy (I think it was a golden retriever). Since I also just picked up a golden, I remember asking him what it's name was, but have forgotten his reply. He was currently in the middle of a tour and commented on the fact that he had picked up the dog and then was "on the road". He did imply 'hot water ' then as well. LOL I guess there is no shortage of home-grown experiences that one can use for new material. Jim T. I grew up here in Florida and when I was a kid we had a beagle that had been just too highly bred for hunting to be a good family pet. He was always taking off in the wooded byways around our neighborhood to hunt something. This is Florida (do you see where this is going..???) and one day he got into a tussle with an alligator. My parents told me that after Checkers (yes, just like Nixon's beagle) recovery he had gone off to live in the country with a hunter where he's be happier. Just a couple of years ago my Dad let Checkers true fate slip out. Here I am -- only slightly middle aged -- yelling at my Dad, "I KNEW you were lying about the dog!!!!!!" At which my poor 75 year old father tries to start some furious back peddling. Richard could be in hot water with his daughter for decades. Peace, ....Carol ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V10 #125 ************************************
