The Green Note is a small place and it was fully loaded. you can eat there as well (vegatarian) and people usually do it, reserving a table and a seat in the process. I arrived late, chatted to a few friends who were dining there as well but as all tables in the performing room were full they ate in the front part of the venue. Then after I went to the toilet I bumped into Richard who was a little surprised to see me there. I gave him my regards from Drew Nelson, who I'd met 2 days earlier at a Rod Picott concert. Drew and I chatted a bit and I told him I was gonna see Richard on the Wednesday. He said to say hi, he had recorded Next Best Western on one of his records. Small world isn't it? I was very lucky to catch a seat (probably the only one left) as the standing room in the back was very hot as I was told. Richard did 2 sets, which were fairly typical to this tour: - - just a few from the new record (Juggler, Clara, Balloon) - - lot of regulars (Fenario, Mavis, Transit, Reunion, Arrowhead - - some covers (Blue Northern Light, Sitting on top of the world, Change is gonna come) - - requests from inbetween sets (there was quite a line for the cds during the break. That might be because shows start very late at the Green Note, after 9.00pm and people were leaving during the second set to catch their trains, the intermission being the only time they had to buy the cds), Are You Happy Now, Fishing, Whippoorwill - - some oddballs (You stay here, Cold missouri waters, Che Guevara) - - and a new one! It is about a dog he and his daughter bought but as they live in a apartment the dog was not very happy there and despite sending him out for training the dog wasn't comfortable in buenos aires and they sent him out to live somewhere in the country. Richard was the one who had to tell hid kids the news. The song was written in Florence, Italy he said but totally not inspired by the surroundings there. The name of the song is probably "Abby's Gone" or something like that. I had a great time seeing Richard play some wonderfull shows, hopefully he'll be back in Europe soon. Ronnie PS As you may remember I had to leave my previous concert (the Hague) early and had missed the last 2 songs. Well the dvd came in during my stay in the Uk and I can now offically tell you the songs I missed were Transit and Waiting for the Storm _________________________________________________________________ What can you do with the new Windows Live? Looks like a good read for those who prefer literary fiction. *Ciao!* ....Carol ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 2009 14:29:30 +0100 From: Adam Sampson Subject: Re: [RS] One last show (more euro tour news) Ronnie de Champs writes: > people were leaving during the second set to catch their trains That'd be us, then ("Is it because I forgot the words?") -- it's a lovely venue, but not one that you can made a subtle exit from! It was the first time I'd seen him live, and I really enjoyed the show. I'm looking forward to the next time he comes to the south-east (and hoping the new rail link will be in place by then; I'm getting fed up with missing the ends of gigs in London because there are no trains back to Canterbury after 11:30!). - -- Adam Sampson ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 2009 11:18:15 -0400 From: Subject: [RS] Thanks. Hey all . . . I just wanted to send a quick thanks to all our friends across the Blue Divide for their wonderful and in-depth reviews of Richard's recent shows. Those, plus the various YouTube videos, have really been great, and continue to serve to remind me why I love this list. Keep 'em coming. I said 'oh look parasol ants!' one of my nieces asked how I knew that and I shrugged. I've never seen them before but I recognized them from the description Richard gave in the song! I second Ron's thanks for all the great reports on the concerts and the posting of songs on youtube!
