I actually went to Amman as a teenager (my Mom & stepfather owned a travel agency and there was A LOT of free air travel and hotels. The Middle East was their speciality in tours.) It''s not the remediation part of my job that I find challenging it's the apathy and the classroom management issues that result when these kids think they can "mask" their learning deficits by acting like wild things. Sadly a lot of my students are not intelligent. I've had kids who have tested as low as 70 in their IQ. But the great American school system says they should be in a mainstream classroom. That wouldn't be so bad if the 130 IQ underachiever was in the same group of kids. Sigh. They get put in my room because they have not passed the Reading section of the Bush brothers' perfect little test. As for swear words, they know more than I do!! In my last block (fare) of the day half of the class is from Puerto Rico. That has really brought my Spanish cuss word vocabulary up. In fact, I know when I'm being called a b*tch in several different languages now!! :-) I had RS's "Cancion" on one day as they filed in, and that sort of got their attention. Although the Spanish artist we most agree on as a group is Tito Puente. .....Carol On Sun, May 17, 2009 at 4:33 AM, Chris Foxwell wrote: > > > Well, I'm currently in the Peace Corps, teaching English in a tiny desert > Jordanian high school.
