I've been so tied up caring for an elderly parent who lives an hour away that I've missed both of the last two CDs. << Hopefully Richard will do what he has done with the live Vermont show, and make the EP available for purchase as a digital download in the Online Store on www.richardshindell.com. I was guessing the same thing, too -- were it me, I would keep the ep available as a pre-order bonus right now as a reward, and in 6 months or so offer it up as a download or limited pressing CD. And yes, the Emelin shows were '01; we were there too. (But now what's bugging me is, for no reason other than i can't remember, did he do Hideous Grin at Outpost, the other show that was recorded for Courier?) - -Jim C ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Mar 2009 7:21:22 -0700 From: Subject: Re: [RS] the man outside he works for me, his name is Mariana >> And yes, the Emelin shows were '01; we were there too. RG ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Mar 2009 16:54:28 -0400 From: "MICHAEL MARMER LINDA MARMER" Subject: [RS] Bonus CD I got the new CD in the mail Saturday as it is in a 6 x 9 padded mailer. I felt a edge to make sure nothing would get damage with the scissor, as I cut at the end of the mailer. Well, the cardboard cover for the bonus CD got cut too! I was not too happy as it seems the two CDs are just thrown in the mailer and it shifted. I could not feel anything at the point of cutting inside. I did email Signature Sounds and they are going to send me a new cover. But I thought I would let you all know to beware, just in case you have not receive yours yet. CD is good. I'll let you know if it turns out otherwise. Thanks to the wonderful RG I got to at least have a listen to Hideous Grin...and I typed out the lyrics. I'm 99% sure they're accurate. Can't help with any others...and I know sometimes what's written by the songwriter and what's actually sung are sometimes different as well. Here's hoping with crossed fingers that I'm lucky. (And I didn't think to beg either!) HIDEOUS GRIN So what am I to do? They've taken over every room. They stumble in like refugees, The whole thing is a mystery. I have been reduced To having gotten used to it. The whispering beneath the stairs, The disappearing silverware. Just who is in charge here? Who let them all in? To walk on my flowers, And the place stinks of gin. That one in the corner there, Well, what's up with him? The one with the limp, and the hideous grin. I try to draw the line, But no one pays me any mind. I ask them not to use the spa, And they throw a little coup d'etat. But who are they to me? And what is their authority? We finalize the status quo, And they colonize the patio. Just who is in charge here? Who let them all in? To walk on my flowers, And the place stinks of gin. That one in the corner there, Well what's up with him? The one with the limp, And the hideous grin. So what am I to do? They've taken over every room. They just stumbled in like refugees Whose are all these memories? Just who is in charge here? Who let them all in? That could walk on my flowers, And the place reeks of gin. That one in the corner there, It's all cause of him. The one with the limp And the hideous grin. (Deana) "If Jesus were alive today, we would kill him with lethal injection. I call that progress. We would have to kill him for the same reason he was killed the first time. His ideas are just too liberal." Kurt Vonnegut ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Mar 2009 00:12:27 GMT From: "Deana" Subject: [RS] Rickety Tickety Tin And...after I typed up Richard's Hideous Grin lyrics I googled the phrase just for fun and what most commonly came up was Tom Lehrer's Irish Ballad with "Her face in a hideous grin...." And my father used to oblige me by singing that song over and over because I would beg him to sing it again. My dad was the one with LP's collected over the years...and I was the one who would eventually leave them out to be scratched beyond use...Tom Lehrer included even though we weren't supposed to play those. Thanks Dad. So now Richard's song connects me to Tom Lehrer's and my childhood....but the tone is oh so different. Do people think it's a political song (revolution and/or communism or just invasion because of war or political upheaval and no more personal possessions or privacy or security or boundaries) or personal with memories invading? Anyone know the story of the song? Deana "If Jesus were alive today, we would kill him with lethal injection. I call that progress. If you click on the songs, it brings them up. There is also a link under the picture of the new album that says Mariana's EP coming soon. So, maybe you'll be able to buy it soon.
