I don't see any mention of it on his website. Could someone let me know where? thanks! also on another note: I've ordered Antje Duvekot's CD (newest one) based on you all's raving about it.... Looking forward to receiving it. thanks again, Em ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2009 10:13:38 -0500 From: Laurence Krulik Subject: Re: [RS] Re: shindell-list-digest V10 #22/where to pre-order? Looks like Richard took down the "finance his new record" link from his site. At least 6 months ago (maybe more now), Richard was doing a sort of fundraiser for his new album which provided services (guitar lessons, lyric workshop, concerts, ect) as well as the opportunity to pre-order the new album (with a bonus CD and T-shirt). Since Richard raised enough money to finance the record (and its recorded and complete now) he's not offering this any longer. Hopefully for folks who missed out on the pre-order, you'll get a chance to order the bonus CD (if there still is one!) at some point. Enjoy Antje's record - still can't put it down. If my memory serves, I recall suggesting to this list a few years back that the guitar- players here would not be disappointed if they acquired a copy of Rodriguez's album Mujeres. Maybe Richard's cover will convince folks to track it down. On the subject of Rodriguez as a Cuban Pete Seeger, Richard introduced "Que hago yo ahora" by describing Rodriguez as having Dylan-like status elsewhere in the world. It is not surprising that most Americans haven't heard of him, since he has been an extremely strong supporter of Castro. It's a beautiful song, isn't it? I appreciate Richard's willingness to introduce his audience to Latin American music--the more so as I'm not particularly a fan of American singer-songwriter music, with very few exceptions. I owe him for turning me on to Rodriguez and Caetano Veloso. And since folks here seem to like documenting Richard's covers, I also heard him do another song from the Mujeres album, but I'll be darned if I can remember which one it was. "A donde van," perhaps? Am I missing something though? It's about being free, having courage to stand-up against the society norms and enjoying life and nature? Is there more to Walden pond that I'm missing? I do agree with whoever said its a bit in your face with the lyrics and compared to Balloon Man and Parsol Ants' lyrics, it doesn't stand a chance. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2009 23:39:37 -0500 From: LN Davis Subject: Re: [RS] Silvio Rodriguez Reappearing after a long absence on this list to the sight of Silvio's name in the subject line. Richard said that Mujeres was the soundtrack of the time he first met his Argentinian wife -- since Silvio does indeed have Dylan-like status in Argentina, selling out multiple stadiums, etc. I commend anyone on this list to the exquisite guitar and lyrics of not only Mujeres but "Al final de esta viaje," (my favorite) "Mariposas," "Silvio," and "Rodriguez." And his latest one which is a return to songs from the 1960s. Skip the afro-cuban stuff, IMHO, or at least, don't expect it to sound the same. Silvio is often linked to Pablo Milanes but they don't sound a thing alike. Finding Silvio was as much an epiphany as finding Richard. They are two of my personal musical trinity. You can find ANY of these albums in multiple on ebay -- mostly sold out of Argentina. And if any of you (a) are fluent in Spanish and (b) become fans, PLEASE contact me offlist, my Spanish is not good enough to parse through the poetry of Silvio's words!
