I debated for several days as to whether it was worth the cost of gas to make the 1 1/2hr drive up to see it and it was most definitely worth it. Mark Erelli went first, followed by the newest signee to the Signature Sounds label Caroline Herring (? I think?), and Richard closed it out. I don't remember the exact order of the setlist but through the hour set he played Arrowhead, Sitting on Top of the World, Mavis, Transit, Northbound 35, Texas Rangers, Kenworth, Juggler in Traffic, Balloon Man (both of which were worth the drive alone!), and I think I'm missing at least one song. Someone had jokingly made a rule that if a train pulled into the station (literally right up against the park/stage) that whoever was on stage needed to play Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues. As Richard sat down, he realized there was a train parked right next to him, groaned a bit, and they all busted out with the song. He joked that he thought his pinky was getting too lazy so he decided to chop off his index finger to make it work harder. He was playing a new 12 string that he said he had picked up earlier that day at a little music store off the Merrit Parkway. He said (as he covered the brand name) he had walked in and bought the first "piece of crap" he saw as he had decided that since he had one less finger he should add 6 more strings. He was with the full band and brought Mark and Caroline up for an encore of She Belongs to Me. I never thought I'd hear him do that live so I was thrilled. Worth the drive and the gas....I figured I'd be an environmentalist the next day instead :) - -K > From: Patience9@aol.com > Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2008 13:38:05 -0400 > Subject: [RS] Greenfield, MA > To: shindell-list@smoe.org > > Was surprised on Thurs night to see that Richard was playing his new 12 > string guitar at the FREE concert at Energy Park in Greenfield, MA.
