As there were only 3 of Signature Sounds musicians who played they got about an hour each. **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Hi all . . . friend of mine sent me this review of the Caffe Lena show . . . RG _ _ _ _ _ _ On a warm Saratoga night, Richard Shindell was simply miraculous. Sporting a huge bandage on his left index finger, no one knew what to expect. BUT...the feeling in the sold out room was like rooting for the fighter that was maybe not his best and your cheering would lead him to victory. No such need, as Richard was masterful. Here is the set list with some comments. - -Kenworth of my Dreams...he came out smoking, as if to say he was going to go for it all night. No loss of chording, even though he had to reinvent how to chord some songs. Big applause when he finished. Sara Milanovich was with him on fiddle all night long. - -Northbound 35...clean playing and seemed to really capture the crowd. - -Pancho and Lefty..the old Townes Van Zandt song. - -Reunion Hill...strummed on a newly bought 12 string Washburn he picked up for $325...he made it sing, and the whole crowd went bonkers at the end. Richard seemed visibily moved by the reaction. - -Sitting on Top of the World...on the electric Taylor, he was on fire playing. People actully gasped next to me as if to say "if he's doing this with an injured finger, what would he do if all was well". Nice work by Sara as well. - -Fishing...the slow version similar to the Vermont CD. Very nice guitar work. - -Arrowhead..great guitar work on the Taylor. - -One Man's Arkansas...for me, the price of admission. Sara looked on as Richard said he would probably tank the song as he forgot the lyrics in the other room. It was note perfect! You could feel the air leave the room as he very quietly sang this. First time I've heard this one, and big applause. Again, Richard seemed very touched by the crowd reaction. - -Balloon Man...from the forthcoming CD, I love the words of this one. - -Born in the USA...Richard said this one and Balloon Man should never go together. It fit just fine. - -Ballad of Mary Magdelene...he asked for requests, but said some of them he could not finger. No one complained when he did this one. - -Transit...I was surprised he tried this one, but it was great. Sara was spot on with her fiddle lines. - -Are You Happy Now...best set up in the night. Not 10 minutes earlier, he said he wasn't doing this any more, after a girl at my table asked for it. When he started the song, the whole place erupted. A true sing a long as only Caffe Lena can do. Richard smiled from ear to ear. - -The Juggler(???)...another new one. Great lyrics and very heartfelt singing. - -There Goes Mavis...didn't think he could chord this one, but it was just as great as ever. Big applause when he was done. Standing ovation and he waved Sara back to the stage. The place was so packed he never even left the stage to set up the encore. - -So Say The Whippoorwill...what a way to end the night, on his new 12 string guitar. The show lasted about 90 minutes, and as always, Richard was so welcomed by the Lena crowd. Richard said his bandages would be on 6 months...PLEASE... do NOT let this stop you from seeing him. This was the best I have ever seen him, and I have seen lots of Richard shows. Go see him in the next 6 months if you can. Can you tell I am still on a Richard high, at 1 AM after the show. Fantastic!!!!" ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V9 #240 ***********************************
