He hasn't been to europe since the Baez tour and it was good to see him finally make the journey. I think he liked it too as he said he is thinking about coming back to the UK & Europe once a year! On thursday night I saw him play in the Green Note in London. The Green Note is really a restaurant with a stage. Unfortunately I didn't know that, ate elsewhere before the show, and had to wait for 90 minutes (the show was due to start at 8 I thought and I was there at 7.30) before any music was played. There was an opening act and I think it was almost 10 o'clock when Richard took the stage. He played a something like a 9-song set before the interval and then played another set. When the concert ended it was almost half past 12 and I was lucky to catch the last tube to my hotel. But it was definitely worth it. The next two days (friday evening and saturday afternoon, he had a radio session later that night)Richard played a house concert in Turners Hill, Sussex, completely unplugged. I had never been to a house concert before but it was great. Very nice hosts who directed me to the kitchen and the food and drinks immediately. Richard again played 2 sets (we had to have a dessert interval) and afterwards and in between talked to the guests and signed cds. I met a bunch of very nice people during the concerts who were amazed I came down form the Netherlands. Well as we say in Holland when the mountain doesn't come to mohammed, mohammed has to go to the mountain. I didn't keep setlists but during the 3 concerts Richard played a lot of different songs. Some of them he hadn't played in years and others brand new: Are You Happy Now The Courier Kenworth of my Dreams On A Sea of Fleur-de lis Summer Wind, Cotton Dress Fishing Mary Magdalene Lazy Tune for Nowhere Arrowhead Next Best Western Reunion Hill Beyond The Iron Gate Confession You Stay Here Wisteria Waiting For the Storm Transit Fenario Waist Deep In the Big Muddy Che Guevara T-shirt Cancion Sencilla There Goes Mavis So Said the Whippoorwill (incl Father Brown verse) Last Fare of The Day Senor Texas Rangers Deportee Lawrence, KS Cold Missouri Waters Get Up Clara (indeed about a mule) Bye Bye (he was amazed when he was told the girl in the original story really exists, there had been an article about her in the newspapers a couple of weeks ago) State of The Union Balloon Man God Meets the Parasol Ants Think this more or less covers it, but I might have forgotten one or two. I guess I had my fair share of songs ... He played a song unknown to me as the first encore on Friday, it seemed a country song. Maybe someone else knows? Richard switched between Guitar and Bazooki (bought at the Shrewsbury festival) during all three shows and did a lot of explaining the songs, telling about their origins. I had a fabulous time and want to thank Richard for coming over and all the nice people I met for a great trip. Can hardly wait for next time Ronnie _________________________________________________________________ Play online games with your friends with Messenger http://www.join.msn.com/messenger/overview ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V9 #152 ***********************************
