We had great seats right in front of the mic - close enough that I earned an dirty look (although good-humored) from Richard when he overheard me mention "The Weather." Great to see Greg there. Set list: 1. Che Guevara T-Shirt 2. Transit 3. Kenworth of my Dreams 4. Balloon Man 5. State of the Union 6. Summer Wind, Cotton Dress 7. Sitting on Top of the World 8. Senor 9. Cold Missouri Water 10 Parasol Ants* 11. Get Up Clara (new song about a mule but Richard said it was about religion.) 12. Juggler - funny, this song was recently mentioned as a new song that seemed to disappear. 13. You Again 14. Cancion Sencilla 15. Northbound 35 16. Famous Blue Raincoat (We finally got to hear this one live!) 17. Mavis Encore: Bye Bye (new song he debuted at the Beatles workshop at Falcon Ridge) Wysteria *I tried to write down the lyrics to Parasol Ants, but my shorthand is very rusty. Maybe someone can fill in the blanks. Sometimes it takes awhile for a new song to grow on me, but I think this one's going to take a long, long time. I missed the last verse, but here it goes: A thief is down, flat on the ground, Face on cement, a crowd grows 'round. His old black coat over his head The crowd is hushed cause it looks like hes dead. Hes got a limited view, a patch of light Parasol ants in a perfect line. Chorus: He is God and those leaves are sails He is God and his breath is a gale He is God with time to kill He is God he'll do just what he will. God is bored so it's what the hell He lets go a gust just to watch them flail All those bright green leaves _________________________________________________________________ More photos, more messages, more storageget 2GB with Windows Live Hotmail. http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_2G_0507 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2007 15:35:11 -0400 From: "Vanessa Wills" Subject: Re: [RS] The ants go marching one by one... Actually, I've been trying to piece together lyrics for Parasol Ants, too. Between our notes, I think we've probably got most of it. Merging my and Isabel's notes, I think the lyrics are: A thief is down, flat on the ground, Face on cement, a crowd gathers around. His old black coat thrown over his head, The crowd's all hushed cause it looks like he's dead. Got a limited view, one patch of light Shining down on a curious sight. Parasol ants in a perfect line, Dragging green leaves from way up high. Chorus: He is God and those leaves are sails He is God and His breath is the gale He is God with time to kill He is God and He can do just what He will. Now, God is bored, so what the hell? He lets go a gust just to watch them flail The ants go flyin' in every way, Those bright green leaves all blown away. He is God and those leaves are sails. He is God and His breath is the gale. He is God, with time to kill. He is God, and He can do just what He will. God's got problems, He's busted, but good. He ain't nothin', But a well-known local hood. The ants keep going, They pay no mind, They got leaves to move, And they march on by. He is God, And those leaves are sails. He is God, And His breath is the gale. He is God, with time to kill. He is God, and He can do just what He will. On 8/6/07, Isabel Frey wrote: > Gene and I saw Richard at the Turning Point last night. A recent search for "Richard Shindell" reveals that last year, he was mentioned in an article titled, "Incorporating music into health care education: Experience at a college of pharmacy," written by a researcher named Michael Vance. The song "Confession" is included in a list of "Health Care and Toxicology" songs, along with Cheryl Wheeler's "Is it Peace or is it Prozac?" and "Goddamn HIV" by Mary Gauthier. The whole article is here as a PDF file: http://www.educationforhealth.net/EfHArticleArchive/1357-6283_v19n2s13_749177658.pdf. As much as I enjoy seeing Richard perform with his musical cohorts (yes, I even like when Rad joins him! Strangely, I find that Mr Putnam overwhelms Richard more than Rad. Oh well, just my opinion.) you get the true genius of the man when he's by himself. It was my first time seeing him perform with the Taylor T-5. A very nice addition to his guitar collection. I've played them in guitar stores and they are a good bit of fun. Here's the best set list I can come up with. Not in any particular order. New songs may not be correct titles. As a singer-songwriter myself, I'm usually the last one to rate and rank, but as I watched, my overwhelming feeling was that this was truly a man among boys. He is just that impressive. Anybody have a setlist from the 7:00 pm Turning Point show? As far as I'm concerned, there's Richard Shindell and Dave Carter, and then there's everybody else.
