And I understand Ron's point. That said, I appreciate the in-depth song analysis and the solid show and festival reviews offered by Vanessa and Chris. Also it's important, for me anyway, to "get things on paper" soon after seeing a performance or hearing a new song, especially if you don't have a recording to re-listen. So I can also see why V stayed up Aaaaaalllllllll Night. So feel free to keep these essays on list. Oh, and for songs sung and not yet recorded, there was "Juggler Out in Traffic", heard at the Boulton Center, August 11, 2006. - A new song that got a warm reception. (Gibson acoustic, capo3) The protagonist is a street juggler performing for tips and sings of the fleeting relationships we have amongst us strangers, our brief encounters as we hustle and bustle along our comings and goings, and longing for connection. After the exchange yesterday I was worried the posts about new music I and others were writing had somehow sounded like, "Nyah, we get to hear the new stuff." I was more hoping to a) just discuss the stuff, period, in the venue I'm most likely to find others who are similarly inclined to ponder the songs with me, and b) convey a sense of what the new stuff is like. The other thing I was thinking today is that so far, I think most or all of the posts about new songs have been explicitly marked as such in the subject line, so they're pretty easy to avoid, actually. "Juggler Out in Traffic" sounds interesting. Maybe there can be a Street Merchant Trilogy: "Juggler Out in Traffic," "Balloon Man," and. . . something yet to be written? - --Vanessa On 7/31/07, B Gallagher wrote: > > I didn't make Falcon Ridge or any recent shows; so I have not heard these > songs. I don't know if I'm the only one who's noticed this so far, but the Shindell-list archives (as well as the Dar and Lucy list archives) seem to have disappeared. If you're also having trouble accessing them, never fear: all Shindell posts from the beginning of time are still available via the smoe.org archives. http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list RG ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2007 21:07:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: Re: [RS] New songs! I was watching a show on PBS tonight (P.O.V. - Finding Sean) and at the end they played the chorus to Never Die Young by Lori McKenna with Richard singing back-up! That was a nice surprise. They also played a couple of Gillian Welsh songs. I think I'm mostly recovered from Falcon Ridge. Maybe I'm getting old but that sun was brutal this year, not to mention the rain of course. I was hoping Richard would've sang at least one Beatle song at the workshop. I think he would do well covering I Will a pretty short song. Or maybe sing Shes Leaving Home first so people could better appreciate his song's response. I barely remembered the song, not listening to it much because I always thought is was too sad. I didn't run into anyone though once when I was wearing my AYHN shirt a man looked at me and smiled. I leaned in asking "Are you on the list?" He backed away from me mumbling "Funny shirt." I think I frightened him so I didn't do that again! I do like reading posts about new songs, even ones I haven't yet heard. I'm hoping like hell the juggler song he played last year makes it onto the new album. I really liked it. And I didn't think Hideous Grin was that bad! On another note, we ran into Gene and Isabel tonight at a Red Molly concert. They were also at Falcon Ridge. One of them had complimented me on my clever Che shirt. I thanked her not bothering to explain it wasn't my clever idea. They are a great group, very entertaining and funny, not to mention extremely talented. Worth checking out! It's becoming a major cluster**** for hundreds of sites. When they eventually crawl back online I am going to migrate to another vendor, I can't put up with this stuff. I would have announced it earlier but I was at Falcon Ridge with limited access. By the way, Richard did amazing work at Falcon Ridge this time... a super mainstage set.
