["James Matthews" > Erm...perhaps this is really bad form, discussing these new songs while most haven't been able to hear them yet? << Well, while not bad form, I do think that the conversation about the new songs is getting into a level of detail that 99% of the list can't involve themselves in. Richard trying out some new songs is great news -- and brief summaries are nice -- but I'd personally hold off on the in-depth analysis until more than just FRFF attendees can participate. Of course, that's just what I think. Y'all's mileage may vary. I wasn't trying to exclude people from conversation, just writing down thoughts in the immediate aftermath of a weekend full of new, interesting music from Richard. But I agree that maybe there's a question about the level of detail it's worth going into onlist at this point, especially if it's going to make people feel alienated. (I think we should be careful, though--there are lots of subjects that this could rule out: arcane questions about guitar tunings, out of print recordings from long defunct outfits, "inside" references to songs Richard's only performed in public once or twice and will likely *never* perform again, etc., all of which I actually think are valid subjects of conversation here.) I'll just say that if anyone *does* want to discuss the new stuff, I hope you'll think of e-mailing me offlist because I actually would like to talk about some of this stuff in detail before I've forgotten so much that discussing it is hardly worthwhile. In the meantime, this list has been really quiet, so far from excluding people from conversation I would really encourage more people to pipe up and start the conversations they'd like to participate in because we would all benefit. - --V On 7/30/07, Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: > > >> Erm...perhaps this is really bad form, discussing these new songs while > most haven't been able to hear them yet? << > > Well, while not bad form, I do think that the conversation about the new > songs is getting into a level of detail that 99% of the list can't involve > themselves in. Does anyone know how I might get hold of tickets for the 8/3 performance at the Rubin Museum in Manhattan? Ideally I'd like four, but I'd take two. Thanks in advance! ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V9 #129 ***********************************
