(Better than "Ascent," though, I suppose...to say nothing of "By Now"...) Although, if the intent of the compilation CD is more about "let's give our guests good music!" and less about "let's keep that music topical!", perhaps that wouldn't matter so much. I'm having a hard time coming up with a single song for Richard. I guess I might go with "Courier," (from the live CD), which remains one of the stand-out awesome Richard songs for me, regardless of what musical mood I find myself in at a given time. Or maybe "Reunion Hill" (although that might be a bit of a downer for a wedding CD, again according to the nature of the project), or hell, even "Fishing." As threatening and non-romantic as the latter song is, it's always one of the first ones that jumps to my mind when I think of many of the qualities that I love most about Richard's music: innovative storytelling idea, clever and layered lyrics, narrative suspense, etc. Or, from a more romance-driven perspective, what about "Blue Divide"? I know it's not most people's favorite tune, but it really is a nice, sweet tune, with a nice happy ending and message. In fact, you could see it as kind of anti-SW/CD in that way, conceptually at least. For some reason I find myself humming the song to myself just as frequently as I find myself humming others of his songs that I listen to with much greater frequency. As for Dave and Tracy: yeah, definitely "Tanglewood Tree." Awesome song, beautiful song, and totally appropriate. Dar: I don't really know much of her music, surprising though that may be. My first choice would probably be "When I Was A Boy," just for its sheer beauty. Other tentative suggestions might be "The Ocean," "Are You Out There" (live), or the standby "As Cool As I Am." Maybe "Pagans and Christians" if you're looking to make it a lighter tune in the tracklist, or "The Babysitter's Here" if you're looking for the opposite. Just, whatever you do, don't go with "February." :) Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. - --Chris - -- "We were born in a dark age out of due time (for us).
