My major source for Canadian history is Tanglefoot (http://www.tanglefootmusic.com); the specific stories do often focus on the offbeat little items, but with a lot of context--check out, e.g., Secord's Warning, or Roll On Jamaica--or for that matter, La V'la M'amie or Paddle Like Hell for stuff straight from the Acadian tradition. And their music is simply outstanding. Jean (will see Tanglefoot in Hartford on May 5, and Keelaghan in Avon, MA on May 12!) - -- Ye knowe eek, that in forme of speche is chaunge With-inne a thousand yeer, and wordes tho That hadden prys, now wonder nyce and straunge Us thinketh hem; and yet they spake hem so. - Chaucer, "Troilus and Criseyde" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2007 07:21:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Adam Plunkett Subject: Re: [RS] Acadian driftwood I picked up Tanglefoot's live album in a clearance bin 6 months back (I love music from Canada so figured why not!). Although I am not crazy about all of it, some of it is great like two of the tunes Jean menioned - "Second Warning" and "La V'la M'aime". - Adam, who will be seeing two Canadian acts (Great Big Sea and Garnet Rogers) in Boston this weekend and just may end up at the Keelo show next month Jean Rossner wrote: My major source for Canadian history is Tanglefoot (http://www.tanglefootmusic.com); the specific stories do often focus on the offbeat little items, but with a lot of context--check out, e.g., Secord's Warning, or Roll On Jamaica--or for that matter, La V'la M'amie or Paddle Like Hell for stuff straight from the Acadian tradition. Holy mackerel--the CD just came out! THAT is "assiduous dedication to the cause"! John McD. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V9 #54 **********************************
