Does anyone know what kind of guitar he's playing? Would this video be from his current tour, or another fairly recent tour? Also, and I know this is out there, but does anyone know if Richard ever appeared in a guest role on..... wait for it..... Law and Order? this would be at least 10 years ago, I'd think. In the original series. I've happened to see it since in re-runs..there's this guy sitting on the witness stand and I could swear its Richard S., from pretty long ago, like Sparrow's Point era. Was he mostly based out of NYC back then? thx, Em Tampa FL Ps: my 1st post to this list - have been enjoying everyone's reports of the recent shows and thoughts on the new album PPS: re "covers" albums, Patti Smith's next, is also to be a "covers" albums. Which I think is a cool thing. Heck, once people start covering the heck out of songs, they start turning into folk songs! I think Richard was on the cover of the Taylor magazine at one time with it (Wood and Steel, maybe?). I'm a Martin guy so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Either way it's a gorgeous guitar. I'm pretty sure the video is from a tour or two ago. Last time I saw Richard he was playing a nylon string, the electric taylor and the bouzouki. Sadly, he could come out playing a cigar box with a violin bow and still outplay me.....Now back to trying to bend my hand unnatrually for those damn Kenworth of my dreams chord changes! - -Matt - --- Em wrote: > thanks Ron, for the head's up, those were great! > Does anyone know what kind of guitar he's playing? > Would this video be from his current tour, or > another fairly recent > tour? > Also, and I know this is out there, but does anyone > know if Richard > ever appeared in a guest role on..... > wait for it..... > Law and Order? > this would be at least 10 years ago, I'd think. I think Richard was on the cover of the Taylor magazine at one time with it (Wood and Steel, maybe?). I'm a Martin guy so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. << Yeah, that's the Taylor XXX-RS 30th Anniversary Model, which was featured on the Feb/March '05 cover of Dirty Linen. Anyway, amazing show at McCabe's last night. It was my 61st Richard show, and I dare say that this one rivaled the March '03 Knitting Factory show as my all-time favorite. First of all, he played some new songs I'd never heard live b again, similar to the Knitting Factory show where I was hearing "Che" and "Last Fare" for the first time. But the other thing that made the shows similar was the accompaniment b ain't nothing like Richard with a bass-player and a harmony-singing violin player. Bryon Isaacs and Tracy Grammer at the Knitting Factory, Greg Anderson and Sara Milonovich last night. Greg and Sara's accompaniment was restrained and elegant, something we haven't always gotten with RS backing musicians in the past (Rad Lorkovic, Billy Masters). Also, I found myself preferring Sara's harmonies to Lucy's, at least for something different. Not that Lucy and Richard aren't great together, but Lucy's powerful, distinctive and occasionally dissonant harmonies can sometimes overpower a song. Sara sang WITHIN the songs, not on top of them, and I found that to be simply lovely. And damn, that girl can play violin. Richard played three guitars, the Taylor T5 (in DADGAD), what I'm assuming was his Gibson J-50 (in Standard), and a third guitar (also in DADGAD) which I'd never seen before. It looked like a new-ish Larrivee, although I don't know if it's his, Greg's, or whether he may have just borrowed for the evening from McCabe's amazing collection. Here's the set list, with capo position and tuning information on the new songs, since I'm not sure if or when I'll be doing transcriptions for the new stuff (being cover songs and all): 1. Fenario 2. Che Guevara T-Shirt 3. You Stay Here 4. Senor (DADGAD, capo III) 5. Lawrence, KS (DADGAD, capo V) 6. Arrowhead 7. Walden Well (Standard, capo VI, G fingering) 8. There Goes Mavis 9. Waist Deep in the Big Muddy 10. Reunion Hill 11. Are You Happy Now 12. Ascent 13. Sitting on Top of the World (DADGAD, capo II) 14. Deportee (Drop D, capo II) 15. So Says the Whippoorwill 16. Fishing (in DADGAD) 17. Transit Encore: Last Fare of the Day Highlights were "Che" and "You Stay Here," as powerful as I've ever heard them done. "Reunion Hill," heartbreakingly beautiful, thanks to Sara's violin parts. "Ascent," which has always been a favorite of mine, and which he doesn't play often enough. "Fishing," slow and frightening. "Whippoorwill," always a favorite. And the one-two ending punch of "Transit" and "Last Fare" (as if I didn't miss New Jersey enough already). Also picked up the new CD, which provided my entertainment for the long drive home to San Diego. More on that after it's had the chance to sink in a bit more. RG P.S. Those clips are from the woodsongs radio hour and are available for free download from their archive: http://www.woodsongs.com/showlist.asp I downloaded these a while back and wish I had thought to post them on youtube myself. They also have Antje Duvokot performing a few songs and an old show of Dar's. I've been trying to get some of RS' fancy DADGAD fingerwork from Best Western down, any help Ron? Thanks for the great review. One question, though: what does "b" mean? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 17:13:42 -0400 From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] McCabe's. >> One question, though: what does "b" mean? << Doesn't mean anything. It's what happens when one forgets to turn off the "automatically create dashes from two hypens" functionality and crazy graphics result.
