Here goes. Inspired by recent viewings of VH-1's "I Love the '70s" and VH-1 Classic, Richard has abandoned his idea of covering folks like Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel and Jeffrey Foucault. Instead he will be recording tributes to the artists that shaped him during his formative years, the teen-pop idols of the early '70s. Expected tracks will include: I Think I Love You (Partridge Family) Heartbeat, It's a Lovebeat (DeFranco Family) Ben (Michael Jackson) Easy Come, Easy Go (Bobby Sherman) Sugar, Sugar (The Archies) Billy, Don't Be A Hero (Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods) Saturday Night (Bay City Rollers) and, of course, three songs honoring Richard's true inspiration, Donny Osmond Go Away, Little Girl One Bad Apple I'm A Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock & Roll (duet with Lucy Kaplansky) Additional guests include John Gorka (as several Osmond Brothers), Tito Jackson, two or three miscellaneous Heywoods, and Suzanne Crough on tambourine. Simple analysis shows the affect this era had on Richard's music. 'Billy, Don't Be a Hero' is clearly the inspiration for 'Sparrows Point,' and can there be any doubt that the kid singing to 'Ben' ultimately became the customer in 'Confession?' Or, that once Donny told that little girl to go away, she joined a convent and became Sister Maria? Dylan shmylan. These songs were Richard's muse. Just another reminder that the Shindell List's own Jim Colbert will be opening for the amazing Red Molly at our house concert on February 11. We're located in Merrick, on Long Island, NY.
