Work has been so busy recently it's prevented me from posting, but in that time I have come to appreciate a utilitarian dimension of RS' music in such a way that I was really, really looking forward to the concert (my thoughts on Tom Paxton notwithstanding). I found from the begining that RS' songs had great heuristic value, but I have recently found them useful, as well. While on the verge of a road rage episode hurrying to court in Brooklyn traffic, I hit the CD player which played SWCD, and I instantly calmed down and stayed in my lane, able to ignore the fingers of those motorists whom I had previously (allegedly) cut off. I know that music hath charms to soothe the savage beast, but neither WFUV nor WQXR had done the job to that point. Also, because work has been cutting into my jogging time, I found I was getting slower on the rare occasions that I did run. While really tiring at the 3 mile mark a few weeks ago, my iPod went on a run of AYHN and 2 versions of Arrowhead, and I was literally able to go the extra mile. Between my list absence and the postponed covers CD, those two incidents kept me in RS mode, and was whetting my appetite for November 3. Oh well.
