Russ and Doug are both wonderful musicians and really, really good people. (Russ plays EVERYTHING, by the way... from a hammered dulcimer that he built, banjo, mando and a little mahogany martin he keeps in dadgad...) I really like some of the stuff on his latest CD. - -Jim (Who has actually played with both of these guys some, even if they are way out of my league!) Thanks for the cool Razzy Dazzy Spasm story. A band that lives in legion... but I wonder how many gigs they actually played .... and whether anyone at Moravian College gave a crap. Don't misunderstand... I actually DO give a crap. I would love to hear a tape of Razzy Dazzy Spasm. Kind of the "Doctor Zoom and the Sonic Boom" of the folk music scene of the 80s, 90s, and 00's. ( ha... who knows who once played in the band called "Dr. Zoom..."? Hint - He was/is from New Jersey and he sold a few more records than Richard.) Does anyone know how Richard ( our Richard, obviously ) came to be in the ba nd? Is there a cool story about when Richard and John met - you know - like there is with John and Paul and George? Hmmm... as long as I'm here... Been to _www.richardshindell.com_ (http://www.richardshindell.com) lately? I just dropped by.... I found this: ................................................. ..................................... For those of you who've been wondering about the status of the new record, I'm happy to report that it is almost done. I flew up to NY last week to add a couple of tracks, do some overdubbing, and put the finishing touches on the mixes (90% of which are done). Here's a partial tracklist, in no particular order: Acadian Driftwood, Seqor, Born in the USA, Deportee, Mercy Street, The Humpbacked Whale, Texas Rangers, Northbound 35, Storms are on the Ocean, Lawrence Kansas ............................................................................. . ............ Born In The USA... cool. My email has a theme - and I didn't even plan this in advance. Acadian Driftwood.... damn... can't wait to hear this. Such a beautiful song. Maybe the best thing The Band ever did... although...there's a lot of there there. I heard Richard do "Deportee" this past summer at Madison Square Park. Despite the fact that it's an old Woody Guthrie song - the damn thing is right on target and coulda been written yesterday. After the show, I spoke with Richard for a sec - I told him how great "Deportee" sounded - and we spoke briefly about how current the lyrics still are - and even more so day by day by day. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> November 3rd? Richard and Tom Paxton in New York City right? Damn... I cannot be there. Gotta help with Red Molly and Jonathan Edwards at "OutpostintheBurbs". Poor me. But a bunch of you all are going...right? Wow... damn... That Tom Paxton is a cool guy. I like that song... I think it's called "Jimmy Newman" ... or am I on drugs? You know... "Wake up Jimmy Newman"... Great anti-war song. Damn... That damn song is pretty damn current too. Damn. How come I gotta wait like 5 months for the new Richard Shindell CD? How come we all gotta wait 2 and a half Goddamn years to get rid of George W. Bush? Hmmm... sorry...didn't know I was gonna vent. Just happened. See ya... June 12, 2006. During his last tour Richard had been announcing March '07 as the release date, and I suppose that's still the case. It's way early, but I thought this list should know that our own Jim Colbert will be opening for the extraordinarily talented Red Molly at our house concert 'series' in February, '07.
