John asked Russ Rentler to join him for most of the set and his long time bass player, Mike Manring. John explained that he met Russ the first day of college. Moravian College, the freshman class was surveyed and a few of them performed in an open mic. Russ was there and John also played. He explained they formed the Razzy Dazzy Spasm Band, with Don Anderson. He explained he got the name from a book he read on New Orleans jazz from the turn of the century. Knowing the players werent using the name, he said he stole it. John explained Russ went on to become a Doctor and Don went on to earn a PHD in Philosophy and teaches at UPENN. Russ has recently given up this practice and is persuing music. He has a myspace page and is playing around the east coast. I was impressed with his mandolin playing.. As always i am impressed with John's songwriting and performance. sharon ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V8 #164 ***********************************
