For those of you not on Richard's newsletter list, here's the latest update, including news on the covers CD:_ _ _ _ _ _ _ First, here's an update on the status of Crecer Con Amor Children's Center, to which so many of you have contributed so generously, both with money and supplies. (Thank you for the books. Thank you for the lovely quilt.) Those of you in attendance at recent shows may have noticed that I am no longer collecting donations - at least not directly. Instead, we've come up with a more efficient, transparent, (and tax-deductible!) way for you to get involved. The center is now officially allied with HelpArgentina, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization "whose mission is to connect an International Community of Social Investors with responsible, efficient, and transparent organizations within the Social Sector in Argentina." For more information, navigate to www.helpargentina.org, and then click on "Member Organizations". There you'll find information on the Club de Madres Crecer Con Amor (it's official name), as well as information about the many other great organizations in the HelpArgentina family. Also, I'm thrilled to report that HelpArgentina's sister organization, Insight Argentina is now sending international volunteers to work at Crecer Con Amor. For those of you who have approached me at concerts asking about volunteering, this would be the way to go. Go to www.insightargentina.org for more information. Now on to music. The famous (yet ever elusive) record of covers is done - been done actually. Unfortunately it'll have to wait until next year, probably March, to see the light of day. Believe me when I tell you that I would much rather it were otherwise. But such are the inscrutable ways of the music industry. In the meantime, I'm just going to move on and start recording the next disc of originals. And speaking of commerce, on the recommendation of Richard Thompson's people, I've moved my online sales operation over to TheConneXtion.com=2 E The march of progress continues. So that's it for now. Thanks for listening. Richard ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2006 15:32:50 -0500 From: "kunigunda" Subject: Re: [RS] RS Newsletter. I'm not that devious. ;-) RG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2006 18:54:30 -0400 From: Peter Booth Subject: Re: [RS] RS Newsletter. Next YEAR!??!?!?! MARCH?!?!?!?!!??!? MARCH?!?!?!?!!??!? << I wonders: What DOES keep an already-completed record from just going ahead and being released? What are these inscrutable music industry ways? I mean, really, Shindell fans are Shindell fans, and I doubt there will be that many more of them born between now and March. Does the record company think that one fewer record would be sold if it were to be released now, or one MORE record will be sold if the release is held off for another seven months? Can missing the holiday gift-giving season possibly be a good thing, or is that intentional, with the thought being that people's discretionary income is elsewhere-directed during the holidays? I dunno, seems to me that any Shindell fan worth his or her RS Decoder Ring can always find fifteen bucks for a Richard release every three to four years or so, no matter what time of year it is. Maybe it's because the record company is too busy between now and March to put the massive amount of funding and promotion behind it that Shindell releases usually get. Yeah, that's probably it. ;-) RG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2006 21:20:03 -0600 From: john cleirigh Subject: Re: [RS] RS Newsletter. I was at Denny's the other day at 2 AM, and what should come on the Muzak piped in overhead but Suzie Werner's You Come Through off of her Koch release I Can't Be New. Oh and Richard isn't the only one. Lori McKenna told us on Sunday night that her new CD is finished and is slated for a release in Spring '07 (Heard that before? ) OTOH she has the excuse of being on a major label now :) But it's still at least a bit annoying if this is happening to 2 of your absolute favourite artists. - --Reinhard - --On Wednesday, August 23, 2006 10:50 PM -0400 Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: > Richard says: >> The famous (yet ever elusive) record of covers is done > - been done actually.
