Here's a snip from an interview with Richard from Reunion Hill time. - -jim Q. How about "Out Beyond The Iron Gate?" A. No. That's not a love song for a spouse... well maybe, sure it could be. It could be a spouse who has passed away. It's really from the point of view of an old person-I really should have put more clues in there or props that this was an old person-but I was thinking of somebody in a nursing home who wanders out and is imagining this person. Actually I conceived that song more as of an old person regressing to childhood and remembering a parent. http://www.mmreview.com/shindell.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 11:39:56 -0600 From: "kunigunda" Subject: Re: [RS] cd Another of our favorite songwriters is busy recording a new cd - Lori McKenna posted this 2/12/06 We started recording my new record a few weeks ago in Nashville. We had a great day of tracking - with superb players at a beautiful studio in music city. This record is being produced by Byron Gallimore and Tim McGraw. We'll track some more in early March. I've really enjoyed the process so far and love the way it's turning out. Can't wait to get it to you all. http://www.lorimckenna.com/?view=meet_lori carrie in kc ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 08:48:58 -0800 From: "Bill Chmelir" Subject: [RS] Too Short I don't necessarily think that I Saw My Youth Today ends abruptly, but I do think it is too short. Shindell manages to tell the whole story in the 2 verses provided, but it leaves me wishing that there were at least 3. It is so good that I don't want it to end. 2 verse songs often leave me with that feeling. Everyone knows that a proper song has at least 3 verses. The song does seem to end at least in a logical place--repeating the first four lines, but I then expect him to sing the remainder of the stanza. Maybe the narrator is awoken (dreaming feet) so the reverie ends??
