All the lawyers that I count amongst my friends are incredibly good people<< I was kidding, of course, and am happy to say that I know good lawyers and I know good people, but I am sometimes disappointed that they are not one and the same as often as I'd like. The good that has come from the profession--e.g., consumer protection, civil rights--is often overshadowed. Anyway, for what it's worth, John, my firm (her in NY) had a potential HIPAA violation claim against a pharmacy--I found no private right of action under HIPAA, and the potential injury to reputation claim was impossible to prove. I hope you fare better. Liberal lawyers mostly from the north east and the left coast... This explains a lot. It's no wonder this Civil Engineer/Army Helicopter Pilot from Colorado can't relate or sometimes even understand what the bleep you're talking about when you dissect Shindell's music to the Nth degree. Sure, I know that Richard is a clever wordsmith and that many of his lyrics do have more meaning than meets the eye. Personally I just have neither the time nor the energy to dig as deeply as some of you have the ability to dig. I'm no slouch though. I was the guy that suggested that Beyond the Iron Gate is sung from the perspective of a dog and I asked the question "is BAGHDAD (drop the H) a new open tuning?" But you folks. I am always entertained, often amazed, and yes have even been impressed by how deep some of your insights into Richard's music have taken you. And now I know where you acquired your shovels. Law School!!! You are actually trained to analyze words the way you do. Wax on my legal friends, Bill PS - Be thankful the list is not heavily populated by engineers. I would be tempted to break into some whacky, crazy calculator humor which would leave most of you looking for the exits. My Warrant Officer humor is less kind but is certainly more amusing. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Dec 2005 18:30:49 -0800 From: Sandy Smith Subject: Re: [RS] Lawyers Although I am a liberal lawyer from the left coast, I'm a bit like Scalia when it comes to Richard's lyrics. So you'll rarely see me analyzing his lyrics here. Sandy (back to lurking now) On Dec 14, 2005, at 11:37 AM, Bill Chmelir wrote: > Hi everybody, > > So a bunch of you are lawyers, aye? Bill, you should hear what lawyers (at least estate planning lawyer) say about engineers behind closed doors.... usually with a lot of and :) :) :) Lisa Davis ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Dec 2005 19:31:08 -0800 From: Sandy Smith Subject: Re: [RS] Lawyers A doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer all are sentenced to die by guillotine during the French Revolution. The doctor lies down on the device with his neck in the neck rest, the executioner drops the blade, and the blade stops one inch from the doctor's throat. The executioner says: "Sacre bleu! It's a miracle! We must let this doctor go free." The lawyer lies down, and the same thing happens. The executioner says: "Mon dieu! Another miracle! The lawyer must go free." The engineer lies down, looks up, and says: (wait for it) "Oh, I see what the problem is . . . ."
