Shin-Heads vs. Shindelleers?<< I see no intention on Bruce's part to create a rift. I think it's cool to have discussions about Richard's music in lots of places and in lots of forms. My only objection is to using a myspace account that looks like Richard set it up (since many folkies, including myself, use myspace to promote ourselves, using our real names as the space name). And since it's now taken, if Richard were to decide to use myspace as another avenue for promotion, he no longer has the option of using the most obvious space name. When an artist creates a myspace account, the artist gets more features than a regular account...like streaming mp3s, special space formatting to include gig schedules, etc., at no charge. These features are not available now for myspace.com/richardshindell/ unless Bruce were to give control of the site to Richard. You have to demonstrate copyright ownership to upload content to myspace artist sites. john ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Dec 2005 21:05:13 -0500 From: Jamie Younghans / John McDonnell Subject: [RS] RE: myspace Hi all, John wrote: >>My only objection is to using a myspace account that looks like Richard set it up (since many folkies, including myself, use myspace to promote ourselves, using our real names as the space name). I was being facetious about the Crips/Bloods thing, but I did get a direct e-mail from Bruce who said it was not his intention to form a splinter or competitive list. He did say, however, that he sent the e-mail directly because his posts no longer get through. I thought that was odd, and certainly nobody owes me an explanation as to the administrative policies of running this list, but is that true? and, if so, any particular reason? Just curious. I'm not sure what anyone's implying, but let me assure you that there are no "policies" on this list other than the basic netiquette ones outlined in the welcome message (you know, no flames, no spam, no attachments, etc.). This is not a moderated list, meaning that I do not see messages before they're posted, and I actually wouldn't know how to do that even if I COULD. The only messages that don't get through, because of the way we have the majordomo tools set, are ones that include the words "s*bscribe" or "uns*bscribe" (which majordomo reads as commands) . . . messages sent from non-members (or email addresses other than the one from which the member signed up) . . . and messages that include an entire previous day's digest at the bottom. These bounces happen automatically, and sometimes I don't go through them individually to determine the offending action. Nothing sinister going on here.
