Here is one of them. I haven't tried it yet so I really can't recommend or confirm but you can download software that will hopefully solve your problem, on a free trial basis. There may be some even better info out there. Try googling "copy protected wma to mp3" http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=78454 or the main page is http://www.cdfreaks.com/software/98 Carrie in KC Lisa sez >I just bought a CD that unbeknownst to me has copy protection, the files >are all .wma and unconvertible, and given that I like to make mixture CDs >and only 1 track do I like AND it is not available for download via the >usual (paying) sources, I am really P.O.d. It was highly annoying as I couldn't transfer my cds to my mp3 player which is pretty much the only thing I listen to anymore. I followed the steps on here http://www.dsg.cs.tcd.ie/~haahrm/copying-protected-cds/ It's really easy...just download isobuster ... you can run the freeware version and it works fine. It's perfectly legal...actually the copy protection that won't allow you to make any copies at all is the illegal thing (1992 law that allows you to make up to so many copies of music you purchased). Pretty much all the major labels are using copy protection on at least some of their cds (usually ones that are expected to be ones that they consider the "highest risk" for peer-sharing). I know EMI, BMG, Sony, Universal, and yes Richard's label Koch is using it as wel (as of this Sept/Oct, I believe). - -K >>I just bought a CD that unbeknownst to me has copy protection, the files >>are all .wma and unconvertible, and given that I like to make mixture CDs >>and only 1 track do I like AND it is not available for download via the >>usual (paying) sources, I am really P.O.d. Well I would be too. Speaking for most if not all of us here in Shindellville, WE really support musicians. From going to concerts, buying CDs and Che T-shirts and such, and promoting the music. So I don't ascribe to the idea that copying some tunes into a compilation disk, taping a show, taking a photo, or anything - so long as you don't sell it - is hurting the artist. Thanks to Ken for that King of Prussia recording, but when RS releases another 'authorized live recording' or any other, I'm going to buy one for myself and probably some for others. And if I hear something I like, I usually buy it; directly from the musician at a show if possible. And I can't stand those anti piracy tamper-proof sticky label strips 'protecting' the CD from being opened and returned. I mean, do people really buy a CD, copy it, and return it? You got to fight, for your right, to copy.
