To all who gave their reviews of the Carnegie show - THANKS!! I have only had the opportunity to see Richard and Lucy together one time; but it was magic. Now Adam, or somebody who went to Sellersville last night - I'm dying to hear about this one! It was his first time there, and I'd love to know if he altered what he has been doing lately. (Normally I would have made this one, but alas, it was not to be.) Arrowhead, and Whipporwill among them. Richard did seem quite at ease and played Wisteria and Transit to the delight of the crowd, (and me). He did several covers including Senor, but didn't do the Springsteen Fourth of July song. Will there be a recording made available of the Carnegie show? Anyone know? The theater is a very charming small theatre in slightly out-of-the-way Sellersville PA, about 45 minutes west of Philadelphia. The seating capacity is 326 according to their website and the theater was about 1/2 full for the show. We got there about half way through the opening act, Matt Duke, and were impressed with the part of his set we heard. His sound is part Damien Rice, part Jason Mraz, part Ben Folds Five (IMO). Before I comment on Richards set, I feel the need to say that my wife and I LOVE Richard (why else would we read this list) and have seen him in excess of 10 times and routinely buy his CD's for people we know to try and spread the word. Please keep this in mind when reading the rest of this review. Richards set last night was by far the weakest set I have ever seen him perform live. He just didn't seem to be completely there. I know it was the last date of the tour, and I think maybe he was just tired and looking forward to going home so his thoughts were elsewhere. He made a lot of lyrical mistakes and miscues and seemed to have trouble winding his way through familiar songs. I also noticed that he seems to be playing with a convention of holding the start of a line until the middle of a measure, thus running one line into the beginning of the next. It adds an interesting feel to a song when done occasionally, but he seemed to be doing it in every song last night and it grew weary. The set also seemed shorter than past shows (although this may be my imagination). My wife and I discussed the show at length on the way home, and both came to the conclusion that it definately was not the strongest show we've seen, but even a bad Richard show is always worth the price of the ticket. The setlist was: There Goes Mavis Senor (Dylan Cover) Cancion Sencilla Fenario Waist Deep in the Big Muddy Hazel's House Mercy Street Are You Happy Now Northbound 35 (Jeffrey Foucault Cover) Lazy Fishing Transit ENCORE -- **Cover of ?? ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #284 ***********************************
