They are also paying for ALL administrative costs from the foundation, so that ALL monies donated will go directly to disaster aid. You were thinking of donating $$$ anyway, so maybe this will get you to stop thinking, and start moving! http://www.rrmtf.org/mtf/hurricanerelief.htm New Orleans is (was??) a great city for music lovers.... I have been there many times, and each and every time, I found something new to surprise me. The people were almost always genuinely awesome, the music as well, and the food-- YUM! Over the course of many years, I have made a lot of friends in the area, and I am extremely concerned for their immediate and long term safety, health, and prosperity. So lets all go take advantage of this 2+1 deal, and steal from the rich (Tribune Co.) and give to the poor! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Sep 2005 10:15:41 -0400 From: B Gallagher Subject: [RS] Louisiana 1927 > I get distrustful when the celebrity > bandwagon fires up. " dar williams I am not going to comment on Dar ticket prices.. or Ticketmaster or the other alternatives, but Patty Romanoff is looking for Merch Help for the price of a ticket.. its not an easy job but I may be an alternative.. I will comment as asked on the Next Dar Williams record.. Dar used her touring band, Ben Butler, Mike Viseglia, Steve Holley, Julie Wolf and Added Steuart Smith and Rob Hyman to come with a unique record. Dar added Neil Young, Pink Floyd and a jules shear cover.. so Marshall Crenshaw joins Dar on Everyone know this is nowhere, Ani difranco on comfortably numb and Patty Larkin on Dar's own composition THE HUDSON Dar has written some of her best works since Mortal City on this cd and she continues to find a unique place and voice. This cd is personal and Political. There are love songs to her one year old son and one for her husband (it's a dar Williams love song if there ever is such a thing) and there are scathing political numbers... Dar makes different records each time. This time, she reached into country, and blues and even the Bacharach songbook to write Liar for Gail Ann Dorsey.. Some of Dar's best writing is on Teen For G-d, Empire, The Hudson and Beautiful Ememy... Beautiful Enemy will keep you quessing who she wrote it about.. and I am sure glad it aint me... I loved the Green World, Beauty of the Rain but this cd cracked it all wide open.. if you like Squealy electric guitar solos, which I don't usually. I prefer acoustic.. I can tolerate them on MBS I even asked dar for an acoustic record next... her reply... maybe a childrens musical.. a children cd , I asked this new mom... no a MUSICAL.. Dar is not afraid to try something new... and this record is new.. but written in classic dar fashion... She will be touring with the same band... and personally I love her solo But this band is hot and Girlyman is opening so harmonies will happen... Along this tour Dar is dedicating shows to local charities who need the assistance under the Echoes Initiative... Good works echo all over the world And they sure need some now in Louisianna and Alabama... There never seems to be enough money for floods but gas will be over $3.00 in NYC... Sharon G I don't work for DarWilliams, Inc.. even though some of you think so... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Sep 2005 13:55:01 -0700 From: john cleirigh Subject: Re: [RS] my better self On 9/1/05, sharon G wrote: >> (Dar) will be touring with the same band... and personally I love her solo But this band is hot and Girlyman is opening so harmonies will happen...<< Well now, this is enough to warrant the high price for me. Girlyman opened for Catie Curtis last time I saw her and since Julie Wolf lives here, we were treated to some incredible accordian work. Thanks for the heads up! john ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #203 ***********************************
