Down to St. Luke's in NYC (as well as the bar where Nora's husband is drowing his vows) Then to Ashbury Park Go west until we hit 80 East near the Indiana line is a must All of this to be done in the kentworth of our dreams From: Isabel Frey Date: Tue Aug 30 13:05:38 CDT 2005 To: shindell-list@smoe.org Subject: [RS] But who cares about the weather As long as the weather is good.... "You again," I said feeling like a castaway in a gray green che guevara t-shirt, howling at the trouble. The memory of you, that summer wind, that cotton dress, and the things that I have seen at reunion hill, fishing in that blue divide, has me calling the moon, but it's just a TV light. The courier should be here by now, he was only coming from sparrow's point, but I'll bet he's just lazy, and I know it's not the weatherthey always find money for floods anyway. Man, if I was on the Merit parkway at 2 am in the Kenworth of my dreams, with Nora and May, I wouldn't even care about Hazel's House. "There's Goes Mavis," I'd say, with her last fare of the day, heading out to the island. "You stay here," she'd say, "I'm in transit to easy street--to the next best western." "My love will follow youand it grows like wisteria in the spring," I reply. "Don't worry about meI'm on a sea of fleur-de-lis, so says the whippoorwill" she says. So I'm here, waiting for the storm, with only a grocer's broom for protectionit's a simple song really, more like a confession. I killed my abuelita, with an arrowhead, but I didn't mean itshe was on the ascent at fenario when this noise, like a tune for nowhere buzzes in my head, and I feel like I'm waist deep in the big muddy, and then I went blank. History has not been kind to meit's just like the ballad of mary magdalene, I didn't do anything wrong, and I still have to ask, "Are you happy now?" And before you say it, I know, I really must get a life. IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1st HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. Ironically, our "academy" was scheduled to have its annual "institute" in New Orleans in 3 weeks. Our listserv was doing its periodic handwringing about the pathetically inadequate Medicaid and healthcare system generally, then sending thoughts and prayers to those in Katrina's path, and suddenly I was thinking "but they always have money for floods."
