It was one great weekend of music. Richard's sets: Main Stage, Friday night: Transit Last Fair of the Day Are You Happy Now Simple Song Waist Deep in the Big Muddy Reunion Hill Covers workshop: Sanctuary (Eliza Gilkyson) Louisiana 1952 (Randy Newman) America (Paul Simon) Blues workshop: Man with the Long Black Coat (Bob Dylan) Sittin' on the Top of the Wotld Richard put on a god show Friday night before the night's headliner Nanci Griffith. The workshops were the real treat for me though. He did "America" with Ellis Paul harmonizing and it was really wonderful. In the blues workshop, Richard actually played an electric guitar. He said the guitar - a white electric made in the 60s - was given to him. He also said he had no idea why he was at a blues workshop. :) This was one of best weekends of music I have had in years, other non-Richard highlights: The Mammals - I love the energy they put to old traditional songs. The band includes the daughter of Jay Unger and Molly mason and the grandson of Pete Seeger. April Verch - Canadian fiddle player - puts on a great show. David Jacobs Strain - one of the best guitar players I have heard in a long time...and he's 21 Harry Manx - love his albums good to finally see him live Ruthie Foster - part folk part blues part gospel. Great stuff. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2005 22:23:37 -0400 From: "Norman Johnson" Subject: Re: [RS] Great Waters Folk Festival Adam wrote: >> Covers workshop: Sanctuary (Eliza Gilkyson) Louisiana 1952 (Randy Newman)<< Sounds like a fantastic show. Where in NH was it? It's actually Louisiana 1927, when Calvin Coolidge was President. I saw part of Eliza Gilkyson's set at FRFF a week ago. She's something else.
