It surprised me in being faster paced than expected. It is a fast song, but she was playing with band, which meant that everything was faster than it would otherwise be. And I agree with Chris on Crooked Still, though they were my discovery from last year, and I've managed to see them in concert about 20 times since then. (Were you at the workshop they were on, Friday morning, when they dedicated a song to Beth and Sammy? that was (half) me). Tracy, Richard, and Crooked Still are my top three these days -- the ones I'll travel distances to see. One other Richard moment: On the "sweet harmony" workshop We're About 9 said "we can't let this whole festival go by without hearing a Richard Shindell song," and then sang their haunting a capella version of Money for Floods. I definitely want to listen to more of their stuff. Rushad and Aoife are performing with the "Wild Band of Snee" at Club Passim in September; I'll probably check that out. The only Richard song I got to hear at the festival was a recorded version of "Shades of Black, Shades of Blue" played in between artists. :( --Chris - -- "We were born in a dark age out of due time (for us). I also like that sing old, traditional tunes (in their style) as I love those old songs and not enough people sing them! I will be going to the Great Waters Folk Festival in New Hampshire which includes Richard. He is playing on the main stage Friday night and doing two workshops on Saturday afternoon. I think I will catch all of them so I will report. I think the fest may be close to being sold out but its lineup, IMHO, is amazing. From: "Elizabeth R. Tracy Grammer's contribution to the Friday night song swap was glorious...even cooler was Vance Gilbert's rendition of "Gentle Arms of Eden" and Chris Smither's "Crocodile Man"...Jim Henry's accompaniment has really catapaulted Tracy's performance to a new spiritual plane...I'm not saying it's higher than that which she and Clever Carter achieved, it's just gliding along in a new(ish) realm... The sound at FRFF this year was top-notch. My daughter & I climbed the hill to get a full view with our ears of Sunday afternoon's performance by Eliza Gilkyson and it was crisp and resonant... Heard a Richard song between sets on Sat. night, "Shades of Black, Shades of Blue" from the Spring EP, so he was there in his Angel Gabriel fashion...met a fellow Lister at the Waterbug Records tent, very friendly feline... Rumour is that the Brennan farm is being sold, so future "Falcon Ridge" events are likely to be held elsewhere...very sad news, as it is the place where my family and I go to find peace, music, and friendship in a setting that, well, is really heaven on earth...and, oh, that moon, how it called us...
