I never would have found it without your note. I listened to three segments, including the one where Vance discussed Dave Carter and Richard. Is it just me, or did the interviewer seem to have a bit less regard for Dave's writing than Vance did? Vance, in his typically subtle style (he is quite sublte under all that grandiose humor), turned the tables regarding Dave's *wordy-ness*, but the interviewer didn't even realize what happened. He totally glossed over Vance's statement that Tracy likes Vance and Ellis' slow version of Gentle Arms of Eden because she can understand all the words. Who knows if that's really true, but still. john ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 00:06:31 -0400 From: "Norman Johnson" Subject: [RS] Vance Gene wrote: >>Is it just me, or did the interviewer seem to have a bit less regard for Dave's writing than Vance did?<< You could say that. In fact, it would be akin to saying that Ron G likes Richard Shindell more than he does Joan Baez. It seemed that there were a couple other instance where the interviewer was trying to put words in Vance's mouth-- and Vance shrewdly steered the conversation. I'm trying to remember whether I have ever heard Tracy sing it but I can't think of an instance.
