Often a Spanish speaker will drop the "d" from the past participle of  
a verb.   In this case the past participle is  
"anclado" ("anchored").  I haven't seen it in print much, but I hear  
it a lot.

 Thanks! I had googled "anclao" and come up with some other instances of it
in print, but never in enough context to help me figure out what was going
on there.

 I wonder if it is an effort to emphasize that these days, Richard is
sounding just like a local (as the author of the article writes toward the
end).
