The place was packed like a can of sardines. Wound up sitting at the same table as fellow lister Bob (somewhere near) Paterson. Very cool to meet him. One of the people I was at the show with was my friend and fellow singer-songwriter Gary Frank. He is a member of the Garden State Horror Writers club and they just published a book of short stories based on songs from New Jersey musicians (Springsteen, The Smithereens, Patti Smith). Gary's entry was called "Stay Here", inspired by, you guessed it, "You Stay Here". When Richard called out for requests, our table tried like hell to get it played, but, alas, it was not to be. But, after the show, we did say hello to Richard and Gary did get to tell Richard about the book and gave him a copy. He seemed very flattered and signed a copy of the book. All in all, a wonderful time. Jeez, I can't believe it was my first Shindell shindig in 3 years.... OK, here's the best setlist I could come up with (in no particular order, of course...) Fishing Transit Whiporwill Famous Blue Raincoat Sittin' on top of the world Reunion Hill Cancion Sencilla Mavis Hazel's House Fenario Big Muddy Che Summer Wind, Cotton Dress Fleur-De-Lis Arrowhead Storms On The Ocean ================ Encore 1 Beyond The Iron Gate Encore 2 Are You Happy Now It was too long, but it's great to be back. The Upper Merion "Concerts Under the Stars" venue (a cute municipal park) confirmed these dates and performers for me today: August 7 John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky August 14 Cheryl Wheeler & Richard Shindell w/Sonya Kitchell August 21 WXPN Welcomes Dar Williams w/David Roth The website for the concerts is currently wrong about these dates but will be corrected soon (the info guy told me today). Here's the URL anyway: www.umconcerts.org I think admission is less than $10, bring your own chair or blanket and refreshments. I've seen Richard there twice (once with Lucy) and Dar once. It's a really nice place---even in the rain. See you there at least for RS. - ---Tricia ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 20:46:17 -0400 From: Jamie Younghans / John McDonnell Subject: [RS] RE: shindell-list-digest V7 #105 Talk about a smackdown! If you're family, and you can't get a gig, no one can complain.
