I was lucky enough to see them play at Makor a while back on a great bill with Erik Balkey, CC Railroad and the incredible Andy and Denise (who produced my CD, as well as We're About 9). I haven't heard their rendition of "Last Fare", but "Money For Floods" is nothing short of amazing. Wish I could be there, but I have my own gig tonight. One of the only bummers of playing music for a living. You miss out on seeing a lot of other cool people because of your own shows. Oh well....have a blast! Best, Chip www.chiprobertson.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 12 Feb 2005 07:18:50 -0500 From: "Gene Frey" Subject: [RS] We're About 9 Long Island House Concert Hey you guys, We are thrilled to announce that we will, for the second year, be hosting We're About 9 at our unofficial, ad hoc house concert 'series.' The show will be on Sunday, February 27, pre-show gathering at 5:00, music at 7:00. Last year's show was a lot of fun, as our own Ron G. will attest. Ron opened the show for We're About 9, and he was very well received, and deservedly so. I know We're About 9 has come up on this list before, particularly for their excellent covers of 'Money For Floods' and 'Last Fare of the Day.' They are huge fans of Richard, obviously, and opened a show for Richard late in 2004, so there's that connection as well. To avoid a couple of logistical issues that happened last year, we have created a little web site where you can get information about the concert series, about We're About 9, and a bit more. Please check it out at www.courthouseconcerts.com. We'd love to see you there. Thanks. By the way, we know it's Oscar night. We didn't plan for that of course, but given the choice between watching a bunch of millionaires get out of their limousines to give each other meaningless awards, or seeing a young, talented, energetic band play 10 feet away, and hanging out with other like-minded folks, I know where I'd be. Even if I didn't live here. Gene F. (who apologizes for the inevitable cross posting) P.S. Here's a ridiculous coincidence considering the radio/folk music discussions we have been having. I was listening to a tape of Jean Shepherd's radio show on the drive home last night, a show that originally aired in late March, 1965. One of his topics - Joan Baez. - ------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #57 **********************************
