Cause we have 1400+ of our young men and women whose families are never going to see them again. They are shouldering the true burden of this conflict. I support their bravery, but I think the people who led them there under false pretense ought to be held to the same standards of truth that a democracy implies. And while they're at it, maybe they could treat the Geneva Accords and the Bill of Rights as something more than something to wipe their shiny white butts with. > You all can't be all bad and you definitely have good taste in > music. Nah, we're pretty much all pinkos here. I am heading over to the Toby Keith list and see how the other half lives! tw ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2005 00:32:29 -0500 (EST) From: Chris Foxwell Subject: Re: [RS] hey On Fri, 4 Feb 2005, Bill Chmelir wrote: > If you're looking for lefty nastiness, look no further than the Mark Morford > article posted on this list the other day. If you don't consider it to be > nasty then you and I come from different planets. Er...didn't I write a rather long-winded post about how I felt exactly that? It is VERY clear, and very alienating, to feel that I am indeed on a very different planet. If I woke up tomorrow and found that two plus two equals twenty-four to everyone on Earth except me--well, to 51% of this country, at least--I'd feel no crazier than I do now. - --Chris - ------------------------------------------------------------- "We were born in a dark age out of due time (for us). Why do you assume that to be on the left is to endorse the actions of every single person who has ever also been on the left of the political spectrum? Did anyone on this list say a word about Ted Kennedy besides you? Either you actually think that to hold a position is to express approval of every other person who has ever held that position, or you're simply trying to distract us from what's actually at issue. Either way, it's just not helpful to make this a conversation about whether Ted Kennedy is or is not a bad guy. - --Vanessa On Fri, 4 Feb 2005 11:53:26 -0800, Bill Chmelir wrote: I don't understand how anyone can give that > guy a pass on the death of a 19-year-old girl and try to tell me that it is > wrong and illegal to get rid of Saddam Hussein. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2005 01:11:10 -0600 From: "Mark A. Douglas" Subject: [RS] The latest discussion Is this really helping anyone's feelings at all? This isn't reading like a dialogue or a conversation or an argument, for that matter; it is reading like a bunch of people talking at each other, louder and louder and louder in hopes of being heard, in hopes of getting a hobbyhorse out there that someone may want to ride. Neither side is showing well, and all participants should be embarrassed at their actions. Amazing to me that this is springing from a list of fans of a man who rights such beautiful music, with such considered opinions and points of view. Fans of Shindell by rote earn a degree of respect with me, because Shindell is complicated and not always easy listening. This seems beneath this list, but repeated occurrences are proving that the depths and rifts are deeper than I had feared. Richard is in Texas in March, and I for one am very excited, and hopefully there will be other Richard fans at his shows, and I won't care if they're blue, red, green or camoflage. It'll be nice to see Richard amongst fans, not amongst political flamings. Peace Mark ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #37 **********************************
