Douglas" Subject: [RS] Gabriel Yacoub and You Stay Here I heard Gabriel Yacoub cover You Stay Here on the Putumayo world hour music program this morning. http://www.putumayo.com/ I liked Yacoub's version but he omits the God verse, the one I thought was most powerful in Richard's song. http://www.gabrielyacoub.com/fr/disque/titre.php?idTitre=251 Norman ......................................... I agree. How the hell could you leave out the God verse? By the way - do we know the who-what-when-where-why of how Richard wrote this song? It always makes me think of the war in Kosovo - but I hesitate to post about that in detail cause I have never been to that part of the world and never felt I had a good understanding of what that war was all about - even who the major players were and what they wanted. Maybe I mean Bosnia - maybe I mean Yugoslavia. I saw an episode of E.R. one night - there is a doctor on the show named Luka - and he is originally from Bosnia. One night they told the story of how Luka lost his wife and child in the war. Luka went out of their apartment ( which was in a part of the city under siege) to get food. And while he was outside his apartment got hit by a mortar shell. The story goes on from their - but suffice to say that "You Stay Here" woulda fit perfectly into that episode. I actually kinda heard it in my head anyway. ( Occasionally my brain fills in it's own soundtrack when it feels it is necessary). bob paterson ( we got about 9 inches here in Paramus/Ridgewood area ) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2005 09:15:53 -0600 From: "Mark A. I'm sure all here are aware, but Willy Porter has a version on his 'Live Wire Act' that I think is really powerful. Kind of an if-you're-interested, but, when Porter sings the 'god verse', it still sounds to me as though he's slightly mangling the pronouns. He was awesome! I had never even heard of him, but he was in town so why not? I about fell over when he did "You Stay Here" (one of only 2 songs he performed in English that night). He explained that he had asked Richard if it was okay for him to omit that verse and had Richard's blessing. He said he interpreted the verse to mean that God was responsible for all the bad stuff, and he just couldn't sing that even if that was not the intent of the verse. I know many people on this list are/were fans of Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, but some of you may not know how far Tracy has come as a solo artist since Dave left us in 2002. Tracy recently released her first solo project, an EP called "The Verdant Mile," the title track of which is Tracy's first self-penned song. Her first full-length solo record "Flower of Avalon" is scheduled for release on April 26th. The new Tracy Grammer web site (www.tracygrammer.com) is scheduled to be up within the very near future. Tracy's concerts have long since shifted away from being just a "Dave Carter tribute" to much more of Tracy's own musical statement. And now, we're happy to announce the Tracy Grammer Yahoo Discussion Group, which you can join at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TracyGrammer Not to worry: Dave Carter is not being left behind. But we felt that it would be appropriate for the benefit of new Tracy Grammer fans who didn't know Dave, and we certainly hope that all the long-time D/T fans will join us over there. Thanks . . . come on by, and check out Tracy's great new promo picture!! RG ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #22 **********************************
