Ohhh, how I wish that I could. Geez. I mean... wow. Just wow. Oh, and if anyone onlist does end up going? I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we are going to want *plenty* of details. Lots of them. The whole night described in fine, fine detail. I'm saying you couldn't provide us with too much detail if you tried. I mean, God. Good thing that people who really care don't listen to people who spout that stuff. I am also happy that Afghani women do not have to suffer the indignities that they have in the past and that Uday is gone. My question is, are they all actually better off now that their countries are destroyed and many of their families are totally displaced or worse? Who made us the "Cops of the World"? Tell you what, I am genuinely concerned about ALL of this, and I am not going away so if that bothers anyone one, since I don't want to toe the Bush line, maybe YOU should go. Peace, Bill ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 2004 22:31:34 -0500 From: "Gene Frey" Subject: [RS] How a Bill Becomes... Hey you guys, Bill wrote, well, a lot of stuff I disagree with. But, opinions being what they have been likened to, I must respect his opinion to deliver his. And, as the 'someone' who brought up the draft, allow me this one clarification: >> Incidentally, Rep Charles Rangle (sic) (D-New York) is the guy that most >>recently introduced a bill in congress to re-instate the draft. << Rangel, a longtime voice for the minority and the underdog in New York City, did this in a gadfly role, to shame the other side of the aisle into voting against it. Any research into the issue would have uncovered his clearly stated reason for introducing this piece of legislation, that being the overrepresentation of minorities and poor people in the volunteer military, and, essentially, an indictment of Bush's use of them as cannon fodder. This is not unlike Michael Moore approaching Congresspeople and asking them to have their children enlist. In his own words, Rep. Rangel introduced the bill: "...to make it clear that if there were a war, there would be more equitable representation of people making sacrifices." "I truly believe that those who make the decision and those who support the United States going into war would feel more readily the pain that's involved, the sacrifice that's involved, if they thought that the fighting force would include the affluent and those who historically have avoided this great responsibility," Rangel said. "Those who love this country have a patriotic obligation to defend this country," Rangel said. "For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance." Any indication or implication that Rep. Rangel is in favor this war is a misdirection at best. And signing a note that approves war with the word 'Peace' is, in my opinion, disingenuous. Gene F.
