By new, I mean that the concert venues just opened on 10/1/04. The building features a large downstairs music venue with approx 300 seats all arranged "table style" (think "up-scale Bottom Line") with some bar-side and balcony seats as well (the balcony was not open for the RS show though). There is table service for very nice food/drinks and a full bar area. The upstairs room is a smaller, more intimate venue but still very very nice. Their plan is to serve food and have live music 7 days a week. This is not tied directly to the World Cafe show that is syndicated and broadcast on the radio, and no David Dye was not there interviewing the artists (unfortunately!). The ambience is great and they obviously spent a good deal of time on the acoustics with lots of acoustic panels (the colorful rectangles mentioned by a previous poster) all throughout the stage and audience area to balance out the sound in the room. Richard made a comment at the end of his set about the quality of the new venue as well. To see a detailed plan of the downstairs music venue, visit their website at www.worldcafelive.com and pick a show and go to the ticket ordering section. The site is extremely well laid out and makes ordering tickets a pleasurable experience instead of the normally frustrating experience. You can pick any seat in the house even if it is not the "next best available" seat by their standards. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 2004 19:52:40 +0100 From: "Ronnie de Champs" Subject: [none] Greg wrote: I just realized that Ronnie from the list is the man from the Netherlands who Richard offered the request to Fri night. Ronnie, I didn't realize you were from the Netherlands - I thought you were from France. I remember that you posted a msg a while back saying that you had bought tickets for both shows at Joe's Pub. So I'm wondering, did you get to pick a song Saturday night, too? How did you like the shows? That must have been a nice surprise to be recognized by Richard and given a chance to request a song. Yep that was me. Richard thought I was from Belgium so anybody can make mistakes. It was absolutely very exciting to be recognized by Richard. He must keep an eye on this list. He played Reunion Hill before I could make my request and during the whole song my mind was thinking about what song to ask for. I didn't want to ask for too obscure a song as I was fairly sure he wouldn't play it. In the end I decided on Waiting. After the show I briefly met Richard, thanked him for playing the request and had him autograph a couple of cd booklets I brought along. He asked my name and wanted to know if I was coming to the show the following night as it was going to be different. setlist friday Mavis Fennario Big Muddy T-shirt Cancion Mary Magdalene Arrowhead Reunion Waiting You Stay here (also a request) Last Fare Transit Too short a show offcourse but any Richard is better than no Richard! Richard was joined by Rad after the Big Muddy Next night I only noticed when Eliza was due to start there was no piano on stage, but drums and upright bass instead. Indeed a different show. I visited this show with fellow lister Brian and his wife who have kindly put me up for my stay. Danny McDermott and Lenny Schoesler(?) joined Richard from the start. The first 5 songs were the esame and then Lucy came on stage (my second Richard show and I already get Lucy!) They did next best western and by request my love will follow you. Then they did AYHN but after the first chorus Lucy raced offstage in search of Eliza and Richard kept looking over his shoulder to see if they were making it in time. Just. I didn't get a request this time but I didn't mind. Just to see him play was a big enough gift for me. setlist saturday Mavis Fennario Big Muddy T-shirt Cancion Best Western My love will follow you AYHN Famous blue raincoat Transit (encore) Last Fare (a New York song) After the show I briefly spoke with Richard again, thanking him for two great shows. He apologized for them being on the short side, he usually plays longer sets he said. He remebered my name and wanted to know if I lived in Amsterdam (he told me he once played there with Joan Baez) . I told him to come over to play there again and he said he' d loved to. Here's to hoping! He sounded so happy to see you again! Hearing about Saturday's show makes me wish I went to that one too! Oh well, you can't win them all! Maybe next time. I'm definitely a guilty party this time around--my plans this weekend were haphazard at best. I travelled from Pittsburgh to Philly by Greyhound and got into Philly Friday morning. Then I showered at home, packed, and hopped a Chinatown bus up to NYC. Then, despite knowing Manhattan pretty well, actually, I spent about an hour and a half lost in the subway system. Then, with my phone dead and three people supposed to meet me, I dragged myself into that Starbucks near Joe's Pub in order to charge my cell phone. It was pathetic, and I was a wreck by the time I made it to the show, which, by the way, I had lost my ticket to. Luckily the box office was very understanding about that. I can't even tell you how happy I was about that margarita. ;-) - --Vanessa On Mon, 22 Nov 2004 18:42:07 -0800 (PST), Janet Cinelli wrote: > I just want to say, Vanessa, that I was in that very > crowded foyer on Friday night when Richard saw you. > He sounded so happy to see you again!
