It was just Dave and about 8 of his stringed instruments. He's an amazing player and very entertaining performer. As a Lindley fan since the mid 70's when he played in Jackson Browne's band, I cannot recommend this show enough. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Nov 2004 10:28:40 -0800 (PST) From: Brian Walsh Subject: [RS] Cleveland show 11/17/2004 My wife and I decided to dine at the Grovewwod Tavern before the show, as we did the last time we saw him at the Beachland Ballroom. This "hole in the wall" probably has the best juke box in Cleveland, plus delicious food, great wine, and great ambiance. Because it was Wednesday and early in the evening there wasn't a large crowd so we take a seat at a table in the bar and order some drinks. Well, into the bar from the dining room walks Richard. Being the ugly fan that I am I yelled over to him and waved. He had a smile on his face and said "This place is great isn't it?" and walked back towards the dining room Later we asked the waitress to offer him a glass of wine on us. As I said, we were in a different room and made sure to not interrupt his privacy but he was by himself and we were trying to be friendly Ohioans. Later on as we were eating our salads he came up to our table to thank us. I had a huge leaf of romaine lettuce hanging out of my mouth and my wife had a mouth-full also. We were so tickled and wanted to talk but had to finish our food, he was laughing at us and told us to take our time. We only traded a couple of comments about "Vuelta" and the restaurant and then he thanked us again. He also put some money into the jukebox and talked with some of the help. He was in great spirits and it was a special moment for us. Later during the concert (which basically went as Joe posted it earlier) he asked for requests. Two or three people said "Wisteria" and since I love that song I yelled it out as well. Richard said " I can't argue with them, they bought me a drink".He then caught himself and said, "...now don't everybody out there go buying me drinks. At one Cry,Cry,Cry venue we said we liked socks and people started throwing socks on the stage ". One other interesting note, before he sang "Cancion Sencilla" he asked if anyone spoke Spanish. I'm not sure if she raised her hand but our daughter's High school Spanish teacher was in the audience. Later she said she was going to use that song in the classroom as it is a song about learning speak Spanish. Other trivia ; he said that "Hazel's House" is about his 94 year old aunt and that "every word of that song is true".His version of "Reunion Hill" was strummed, not picked, and it seemed like he went through it too quick, I thought he did it better last time he was in Cleveland but then also he had Tracy Grammar on violin to accompany him. He told the story about "Arrowhead" and his southern cousins asking why the character runs. I thought for sure the next song would be Reunion Hill" but it wasn't. He played that a couple of songs later probably so he wouldn't have to retune. And yes, "Cold Missouri Waters" was a pleasant surprise, he did slip on the lines of one verse but caught himself quickly so that it was hardly noticeable. It was a great concert and he was in a great mood. He even said he was going back to the Grovewood Tavern afterward but we had to drive back to Akron and it was getting late. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Nov 2004 21:14:22 +0000 From: "TRICIA MULLANE" Subject: [RS] change of time for Sunday 11/21 show... In case you didn't purchase tickets online, Richard's World Cafe Live show in Philly has been changed from the originally planned 6PM to 730PM. If you would like to have dinner there, try to get there as close to door opening time (that's 6PM) as possible. This won't change the show seating at all. See you there! That must have been a wonderful experience. Richard truly seemed to enjoy meeting you by the way he went on about it during the show. How thoughtful of Richard to pick you out in the audience when he asked for requests. Later, joe.
